Re: Official MST3K / Rifftrax / Cinematic Titanic DVD Thread
Slightly off topic, but is anyone attending the Rifftrax Live! event tonight?

I went. It was a fun time, as usual. "Be right there!"
Honestly, some of the shorts they get just baffle me as to what purpose they originally served. What kind of a class would they show tonight's one in?
I'm glad they're still doing these events. (My theater was pretty full, so I guess I'm not the only one to feel this way.) I feared that the live streaming riffs - well, the planned, but cancelled "Santa Claus and the Ice Cream Bunny" one anyway - would take the place of them. Sure, streaming is convenient, but there's just something about seeing these with a crowd full of laughing fans that makes them even more enjoyable.

Crap, I thought this was tonight.
@Pizza: I would suggest East Meets Watts and Blood of the Vampires.

Seconding East Meets Watts. Cinematic Titanic is much better with a live audience. I kinda think there's a "too many cooks" problem with CT; the riffs don't seem to flow organically because it feels like everyone is marking time to their next queue and are super-concerned with stepping on each others lines. The live shows add a much-needed spontaneity to the proceedings. The team ad libs and plays off the audience and even cracks up occasionally.
I've seen them perform live at the Lakeshore Theater a couple of years back and might check them out again this fall. Kinda bummed that the shows scheduled for my area feature movies that they have already done on DVD, though.

Re: Official MST3K / Rifftrax / Cinematic Titanic DVD Thread
I got my MST3K Gamera boxed set last week and put it on the shelf. After a couple of days, I decided to watch the original "Gamera" episode, so I removed all of the shrink-wrapping and took out the thin-case. I opened it up and... it was empty. A bit surprised by that, I opened a different thin-case and it too was empty. I opened the rest: all empty. So I had the tin, the little posters, the thin-cases but there was not a single DVD disc in the entire set!
Luckily, I had ordered it from the Big River so I immediately went to Amazon's support site and reported the issue. They replied and sent me a return mailing label and also sent out a replacement boxed set ASAP (which I received so quickly that it was delivered before I had even dropped off the empty set at UPS for return).
I am SOOOO glad that I decided to open it up and watch an episode so soon after getting the set in the mail instead not bothering to check it out until weeks/months later. I think if I had not discovered this until a long time later, returning it would've been a bit of a hassle. And heed my warning: if you get this, even as a gift for someone else, verify that everything is in the tin box.

I try to open most DVDs anymore. I can't watch them all right away but I always check for the right discs.

But this gave me an excuse to open the set and delve into it. Only on disc 2 so far, but wow, Shout did a fantastic job here. Getting the shows is good enough for me, but great packaging and extras make it a great package.

Amazon now has the set up for review. Still have to make an order myself but maybe it's a good thing I'm waiting?
Item Under Review
While this item is available from other marketplace sellers on this page, it is not currently offered by Amazon.com because customers have told us there may be something wrong with our inventory of the item, the way we are shipping it, or the way it's described here. (Thanks for the tip!)
We're working to fix the problem as quickly as possible.

The only issues I've seen are dhmac's set with no discs. Otherwise, I've taken to pre-ordering every MST3K set in case there's a rights issue again. I wouldn't hesitate on ordering the Gamera set.

Yeah, I got my set from Amazon and everything's intact. And I'm also grabbing every set as they come out - I lucked out on Godzilla vs. Megalon but I didn't want to risk it on Gamera.

How are the Rhino sets packaged? Are they like the Shout! Factory ones or are they the long folding digipack?

As for Gamera, I've had no issues with mine and all the discs are in place.
