Re: Summer Sci-Fi Challenge 09 - Discussion Thread

I am off work this week so that is why my numbers are are greater this week if anyone is wondering. I hadn't watched my Buck Rogers, V: Complete Series, The Flash: Complete Series, or Brisco County Jr. yet so this challenge finally gave me a reason to.

I noticed that you didn't finish the Brisco set, any reason why?

No I finished the series, I just decided not to count those last episodes since the sci-fi elements of the series ended with the ones I listed.

Re: Summer Sci-Fi Challenge 09 - Discussion Thread

I just pulled out my Battlestar Galactica seasons to start watching them, and was amazed to find so much unwatched sci-fi on my TV shelves. I have enough to last the next dozen Julys I believe. The 4400, Dead Zone, Space 1999, STS9, Land of the Giants, Wild Wild West, Earth2, all the various incarnations of Twilight Zone and Outer Limits type shows, and that's just from memory; much more if I dug thru the shelves. My name is Trevor, I'm a DVD buying addict.

Re: Summer Sci-Fi Challenge 09 - Discussion Thread

If it wasn't for Big Lots, I think I would have actually watched more DVDs than I purchased over the last year. But damn that chain and their crazy prices.

$100 box sets for $6?
$50 season sets for $3?
Hundreds and hundreds of good movies for $3 or less?

I almost wish that there wasn't a Big Lots near me. My shelves are overflowing, and my unwatched pile has turned into an unwatched room.

Back on topic, my first foray into the world of digital comics was quite mediocre. Micronauts Revolution wasn't nearly as good as the original Marvel run. Back to BSG and some guaranteed goodness I think.

I wouldn't complain since you could look at the entire series as a whole instead of individual episodes. At the same time, shows that aren't predominately sci-fi can be looked at on a per episode basis. The Married with Aliens episode of Married with Children is a perfect example of that.

I'm on vacation for a few days so I'm missing out on watching stuff. I did find a drive-in theater that is going to be showing Up and Transformers 2 on Friday but that's the day I'm leaving and it's about a 5 hour drive back home. I figure I wouldn't get home until around 5 am. That might be too much late night driving for me unless I stopped at some rest areas to take naps.

now, now... it's just a phase...

I've got a ton of stuff I could easily pull out from my video collection to watch, but I always tend to rent and always buy some new dvd's just for the multiple challenge's here on DVDTalk.

^^ Should Up count? It's not listed as sci-fi, more adventure/fantasy, but it has a few sci-fi elements I guess.

Drive-in? I'm envious. Haven't been to one of those in 30 years.

^ I don't know about 'Up' - you can always use as it as one of your '3 wild card' titles for the challenge.

I didn't plan on counting it, it's just part of the double feature. As much as I want to go to a drive-in, I like sleep but I'll probably still go.

I did find a place today that sold chocolate covered bacon(bought). I didn't buy the meat gumballs, bacon mints, or the classic gummy bacon.

The saltiness of the bacon goes good with chocolate but there is that meat filling that gives it an odd texture. It's not bad but nothing I'd buy again, just wanted to try it.

Haven't really played around with the Netflix watch instantly feature, but scanned through some of the sci-fi listings last night and was surprised at how much is available.

I am slowly convincing myself to cancel cable and buy fewer DVDs, thanks to Netflix and Hulu.

Watching my first ever Jericho right now, and am loving the pilot.

Finally updated my list, it's pretty sad so far, with some TV series I would have watched anyways and a few movies that were on TV. I'm not living up to the spirit of this so far.

Through the first 4 episodes now. It's an okay show so far, although I want to punch the little girl repeatedly in the face.

So yesterday I watched all 14 episodes of Firefly in a single day. These challenges make you do some crazy things.

^^^ Congrats to them, I'm having trouble even meeting my low goal of 19.

I have been watching Firefly for the first time and I can't believe this show didn't catch an audience. Never seen a Joss Whedon production but am loving Firefly so far. I guess I can see why it didn't find an audience though since I'm only catching up to it now...

I've still never seen a single minute of Firefly, I'm ashamed to say. Loved Serenity, and was planning on doing Firefly last July, but X-Files took over.

This year, Battlestar Galactica is taking over. Damn this is a great show! Just starting season 2 today, if I finish it maybe I'll finally get to Firefly.

You really need to try and get to Firefly. It's even better than Serenity.
