Wizard of Oz 70th Anniversary Edition ---> 4th quarter 2009 (rumor)

According to Zona DVD in Spain, The Wizard of Oz is coming on DVD and BD in December 2009. They say that there is going to be a 2 disc, 3 disc and 5 disc DVD collector's edition as well as 2 different BD editions.

5 Disks!!!!!! Are they F***in' serious? I love extras on DVD's probably more than 99.9% of DVD buyers but WOW. The two Disk SE was freakin Loaded. The 3-disk was a freakin Wizard of Oz museum in a box! What could they possible add to a 5-disk SE? The soundtrack and a digital copy all that comes to my mind and that wouldn't make this worth re-purchasing. Still a great movie and it'll be interesting to see what they got planned for this.

I never picked up the 3-Disc release. Looking forward to hearing what the specs are for these new releases - especially the Blu-Ray.

Best/most important question anyone has asked in this forum since I've been a member. I own the 3-disc set (a "get well" gift from my wife following my first hospitalization last year), and I cannot fathom what is left.

There were several things left out from the first WB Wizard of Oz release and the mega Laserdisc boxset. If they merge all these 3 releases, it could turn out as the 5 disk set.

I bought the 3-disc set when it came out and I can't imagine needing another edition, BD or not. Unless the BD pq is a total revelation then I'll likely pass. It's not like I watch this movie that often or anything.

I'll buy it, but I'm happy with the 3 disc whatever it was that they put out a few years ago.

OMFG who on earth would need anything more than the 3 disc collector's editon..damn they are just greedy little bitches wanting money, money, and more money. I am NOT going to be buying the 5 disc 70th Anniversary set UNLESS it comes with something I dont have or care about. If it comes with a digital copy or the soundtrack they can forget it because i've already got the soundtrack and I could care less about a useless digital copy.

Just sign me up for the 5 disc BD set. I know that is the one I am going to want.

The extra two discs are probably the deluxe Rhino/Turner soundtrack, which is two discs.

I saw a dye-transfer 35mm of Oz and was blown away by how great it looked. The 3-disc remaster looks spectacular, but I'm eager to see it on BluRay. Until then, the 3-disc will hold me over.

I can't wait for this, I was hoping it would be out earlier than Quarter 4 though!

I'll get it if it comes with a snow-globe that has the witch's face in it. That would be cool.

Re: Wizard of Oz 70th Anniversary Edition ---> 4th quarter 2009 (rumor)

I have still not seen this movie completely from beginning to end (choppy viewings when I was a kid, TBS edits are terrible, we never owned the VHS, etc). Are there any releases of the 1939 that include the 1925 silent film version?

Does anybody remember the TBS live stage performance of this with Jewel and Rosanne? That was pretty good - I'd love to see it again.

The 3-Disc Collector's Edition includes a restoration of the 1925 silent film!

I don't think I have ever met anyone who has not seen The Wizard of Oz. You really do owe to yourself to at least go out and rent it. Not just a film for the kids.

I never saw the movie when I was a young kid. I just watched it for the first time about a year and a half ago and really enjoyed it (as someone in his late teens). I agree that it is a must watch at least once.

Likewise. I ended up getting a Blu-Ray player after it went OOP, so I'll more than likely get that release.

The 2005 3-disc is more than enough for even the most avid fan. I would suspect that the two extra discs would be a digital copy, and the soundtrack CD.
