Cool I was just thinking about this: I wanted to watch Shawshank but thought "I'll wait until the Challenge begins." My goal is to actually make it to 100 this year.

Cool. My goal is to get to 100 AND watch at least 10 Best Picture Winners that I own that I have never yet seen at all.

I'll give this a shot but I doubt I'll even hit 10. I just find myself watching a lot more TV DVDs than movies.

I'm in for a try.

Hopefully I'll watch more than the measly 7 that I watched last year.

Ditto on the bold. I dont know why but this time of year I always seem to load up on TV. Really should make a concerted effort to participate in this contest, but I most likely won't unfortunately.

hoo-rah!! I must admit this is my favourite challenge since it's genre-less.

In again. Going to try to watch movies I haven't seen in years or at all. Not sure how long that will last though.

I'll knock a few out if I can figure out any on my unwatched list that got nominated for something.

Re: The 3rd Annual Academy Award Movie Challenge (1/22 - 2/22)

I watch VERY few movies that could be nominated for anything, but I'll give it a try and see how pitiful my list becomes.

Re: The 3rd Annual Academy Award Movie Challenge (1/22 - 2/22)

Looking back I don't even remember participating in this, I thought I just ran this last year. I know every year I think about just not participating because after the October Horror Movie Challenge then the Holiday Movie Challenge I'm usually burnt out watching numerous movies. But looking back I see I did participate but gave up shortly in only watch 16 movies! I'm gonna try a bit harder this year, but I doubt I'll get very far.

Count me in! I always look forward to this. I thought I watched 90 last year but that was in 2007. I only watched 24 last year so hopefully I will do better this year.

Re: The 3rd Annual Academy Award Movie Challenge (1/22 - 2/22)

I'm in for this as well. I will try to get in 30, but that may be difficult.

When I first saw this I didn't think I would have enough movies that qualify, but looking back at last years lists, I have more than I'll ever be able to watch.

I hate these post titles

TCM's 31 Days of Oscar should make this challenge easy.

To-do list: use Greasemonkey to block post titles

I think a marathon of Oscar-nominated animated short films is in order.

YouTube?

I'm sure it doesn't exist, but it would be great to have some kind of database or script that would go through ones DVD collection and report back on which movies were nominated for Oscars. We can all look at titles and remember if it won Best Picture, but who really remembers which movies were nominated for the technical categories, or costumes, or writing, etc.

Re: The 3rd Annual Academy Award Movie Challenge (1/22 - 2/22)

My boss has a poster* in her office that shows all the winners for Best Picture (through 2002). Every time I go in there, it makes me want to watch all of them. I have seen so few of them. Hopefully, this challenge may remedy that someday.

* the one on the right...

Re: The 3rd Annual Academy Award Movie Challenge (1/22 - 2/22)

I know this is of no help considering I can't remember the title of the book, and I'm not at home where I can readily look at it, but there's a book that features all the winners AND nominees for each year. Sorry... I'll post back.

Re: The 3rd Annual Academy Award Movie Challenge (1/22 - 2/22)

I know we have IMDB and Google and all that, but it is pretty unwieldy when you're dealing with hundreds of movies over 80 years of awards shows. I suppose I'm dreaming to think I will even watch that many movies to need to know all the technical winners or even nominees anyway.
