What I did last year was just peruse my collection and pick out 10-15 movies that I want to watch and just go to IMDB and check them. It says right on the front under "awards" if it was nominated or won an Oscar, so you don't have to do any digging besides just going to the front page of the movie on IMDB.

Casablanca and Gone with the Wind

^ I did a similar thing last year. Coincidentally, a lot of the movies I was watching were nominated for sound or music.

I am determined, however, to make this year the year I finally see Casablanca and Gone with the Wind.

Feel free to crucify me... I deserve it.

has TCM announced/posted it's February calendar of films for their '30 Days of Oscar' yet?

Again, the TCM 31 Days of Oscar link is in the first post and yes I just checked it and the February schedule is on there.

And there is an Academy Award database link in the first post as well. You just type in the movie and it tells you if it's been nominated or won any Award.

Re: The 3rd Annual Academy Award Movie Challenge (1/22 - 2/22)

Just to clear something up. Is there a limit to how many times one can count a particular film IF there are multiple commentary tracks and each one is watched/listened to.
For example If I watch Casablanca. Then watch if again with the Ebert Commentary. Then WAtch it a 3rd time with the other commentary on can I count the film 3 times since it was watched/listened all 3 times.?

Re: The 3rd Annual Academy Award Movie Challenge (1/22 - 2/22)

Well, I'm fairly new to the board but I was lurking during the Holiday Challenge and I loved the idea, I figured I would have to wait until the horror one in October as I didn't know there was an Oscar one.

I'm ready to participate, although I'm setting a low, achievable goal for myself given it's my first challenge. I'm at a disadvantage to begin with as I don't get TCM.

Will give a reason to finally watch The Godfather Trilogy

There's also a Sci-Fi challenge in July, if I remember correctly.

Should we list what a film was nominated for in our lists?

Re: The 3rd Annual Academy Award Movie Challenge (1/22 - 2/22)

I made it to 53 last year, I would love to top that, but I have been terrible at watching movies lately, although I still have a few shorts collections on my netflix list I haven't watched yet, so maybe. Also really hope AMC runs the best picture nomination day again, it was so much fun last year, would love to make it a tradition. Thank you for running this contest again

I'll try this. I've been looking at my unwatched pile lately and trying to get myself to watch a few more. This should be just the motivation I need. I don't know how many I'll get to watch (surely not the 100 I did in October) but I'll shoot for 20. I'll probably try and stick primarily to Best Pictures I haven't seen.

It'd be nice if we could get the list thread set as a "sticky" ... maybe it can replace the Holiday Challenge list that's still up there.

I requested a sticky was blatantly ignored

Re: The 3rd Annual Academy Award Movie Challenge (1/22 - 2/22)

Not much discussion for this challenge huh?

How's everyone doing? I've been doing a movie a day so far. I doubt I can keep that pace up, but it's giving me a good start towards my goal. Unfortunately, I had wanted to do half Best Pictures I'd never seen, but that may prove difficult. After going through my collection I've realized I own far fewer Best Pictures than I ever would have guessed.

Re: The 3rd Annual Academy Award Movie Challenge (1/22 - 2/22)

Yeah this one is usually pretty under the radar. But I've been trying for one a day too, but am falling a bit behind. I'm not usually really into this one anyway (regardless of the fact that I created it), I think it's because it's the 3rd challenge right in a row with very little down time. Plus it always falls into a point when I'm really into watching horror films since I go to a horror movie convention right after this challenge (usually the last weekend of the challenge is the convention, but not this year)

Re: The 3rd Annual Academy Award Movie Challenge (1/22 - 2/22)

I am doing better then I thought I would, and am also trying to do at least 1 a day, that is always a goal of mine, but I always end up screwing it up. I'm really trying to watch movies I've never seen before, especially movies I can't believe I've never seen before (i.e. Casablanca, West Side Story *which I did watch a few days ago*, Gone With the Wind, to name a few). What I think is helping is definitely the checklist. I have tried using one before, but what I did this time is pre-filled it out with the movies I want in each category, trying to only use each movie once. I love completing things, and having it all set is working great for me .

Re: The 3rd Annual Academy Award Movie Challenge (1/22 - 2/22)

So far I'm moving toward the goal. It just sucks that I'm watching all these movies and my DVR is steadily filling up with stuff. If I can keep with with two movies M-W and 4 movies Th-Sun then I should hit 100.
