No Blu-ray? The opening ceremony in HD was great on the air - would certainly be better on Blu-ray.

Boo Universal!

I wonder if the deleted scenes will include footage of resident's homes being destroyed to make way for the Games.

I'm kicking myself for not DV-R'ing the opening ceremonies in HiDef - caught the last thirty minutes. - well at least I can see what I missed albeit not in HiDef.

There should be an option to use the angle function to switch between the real fireworks and the CG fireworks.

Personally, I could am absolutely uninterested in the opening ceremonies. I'm tuning in for the sports. I did hear something about there being some CGI fireworks or something, I wonder which version it will be? I'm sure the broadcasted version.

Anyways...I would pick up the Michael Phelps DVD if it was on Blu-Ray and if knew more about it. Will it have the full un-cut races with the pre and post race comments, etc...? The 4x100m relay is about one of the most amazing moments in sports I've ever seen, but the commentary before and after the race and the recaps and everythings would be important to me... The 100m butterfly wasn't too shabby either.

The NBC site is worthless for the details on the DVD.

I'll also take the blooper real of Chinese officials lynching athletes for not winning more Gold and the behind-the-scenes documentary on how to make 14-year-old girls 16 years old on paper and convincing the IOC it's true.

That being said, if Phelps dvd has full races, interviews, etc. I might consider that. Otherwise I'll be passing these up.

I don't have Blu-ray but I agree with you. It was amazing to see in HD. From what I understand, the CGI'd fireworks were the footsteps that were outside of the stadium, so it's really minimal.

I'd like the opening ceremonies & my mother would really like it too but $30 is a bit pricey (even though it's 2 disc). Hell, they'll probably be made for pennies (by the same kids who're in them).

First thing I thought of as well was if this was going to be in HD. I guess they are going for sheer numbers and not trying to "confuse" the masses with such talk.

i thought the opening ceremony was pretty amazing and would definitely love to get a copy of it. i am a bit surprised its not being released blu-ray though. guess i'll have to save it on my hd tivo for now.

has anyone bought any dvds from this company? or at least seen the quality of their dvds? i've never heard of the company and was wondering if they put effort into making quality releases. i don't want some badly transferred copy of the ceremony, particularly if i'm going to spend $30 on it. also, are these the only releases? or do other companies end up releasing dvds in stores later on? i mean, i guess these are as official as they're going to get, being advertised by NBC directly, but since i've never looked towards getting olympics dvds before, i didn't know...

lol

I think I will pass for now, I really loved the opening ceremony, minus the annoying nbc commentators and commercial every second. I got an Australian broadcast that was way better and have re-watched allot of it. Would be cool to own, but not for $30.

I wouldn't mind having these, but I wonder if they will be heavily discounted later after all the hype has died down. Now if they were blu-ray I would order now.

The opening ceremonies were cool looking and all, but I can't imagine having so little to do that I'd rewatch them all over again.

I wonder if it will be uninterrupted footage or have fadeouts where NBC inserted commerical breaks?

I'll pass on the NBC release, and definitely check out DVD releases from other regions. (I found NBC's coverage of the ceremonies to be dreadful. Everything was designed to be viewed from a distance but NBC insisted on CONSTANT close-ups. We didn't need endless closeups of a row of drummers, we wanted to see the incredible precision and patterns created by hundreds, even thousands, of them.
And blab, blab, blab - the commentators couldn't keep their mouths shut for m ore than 6 seconds at a time!)

I'll wait to hear what's on that Phelps disc. Like Numes, I basically want full broadcast versions of all the races, esp. the two closest ones.

And can they throw on Usain Bolt's races as a bonus?
