Three Stooges Collection V3 (1940-1942) - 8/26

More Eye-Gouging and Nose-Tweaking from Larry, Moe and Curly
in the Latest Volume of Classic Comedy Shorts

THE THREE STOOGES COLLECTION: 1940 - 1942 Volume Three

23 Digitally-Restored Shorts, Arranged Chronologically,
and Packaged in a Two-Disc DVD

AVAILABLE ON AUGUST 26

CULVER CITY, CALIF. (June 16, 2008) – The classic comedy trio returns with lots of “slapschtick” when The Three Stooges Collection: 1940 – 1942 Volume Three twists, punches and pokes its way back onto DVD August 26 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. All 23 short films from those three years, chronologically organized by the original release dates, have been digitally remastered from original negatives and include such all-time fan favorites as You Natzy Spy, In The Sweet Pie and Pie, A-Plumbing We Will Go and An Ache In Every Stake. The Three Stooges Collection: 1940 - 1942 Volume Three, continuing the fan-requested roll-out of the group’s complete short film anthology, will be available for $24.96 SRP.

The Three Stooges are one of the most influential screen comedy teams of the 20th century and an inspiration to generations of comics that followed. Following their start in vaudeville, the trio’s film career began in the early 1930s, reached its slapstick peak during their tenure at Columbia Pictures (1934-1959). After their initial retirement, they were rediscovered by an enthusiastic new generation through the medium of television and have outstripped all their contemporaries in terms of lasting popularity.

The Three Stooges Collection 1940-1942: Volume 3 episodes include:

You Nazty Spy!
I’ll Never Heil Again
Rockin’ Thru the Rockies
An Ache in Every Stake
A Plumbing We Will Go
In the Sweet Pie and Pie

I haven't made it through the other 2 sets yet. Glad to see these coming out so fast.

Good news! I've only watched the first volume and the 1st disc of the second volume. I'm glad they finally released these.

I'm thrilled that Sony is making the effort to clean these classics up.

Wasn't there some talk about an earlier volume having pictures from later years represented on the front cover sidebar? I can't remember if it was the first or second volume or both. Can anyone see if this is the case on the third volume as well? Not a deal breaker by any means, as these sets are terrific (although I wish we had some supplementary material!). Just thought it was odd that the boys at Sony could have missed something like that.

"A Plumbing We Will Go" is my favorite Curly era episode and I haven't seen it in about 10 years. Can't wait!

So are these collection dvd's really better than the Sony dvd's already released earlier? I do have a bunch of the earlier releases (10 DVD's of them ) but the new collection set's are sounding good. Is the quality really that much better. Would it be worth it to get the new set's or just keep what I have?

The video quality on the new sets blow away anything previously released by Sony or any other company for that matter.

I agree with Tardo317. Sale or give those other sets away and get these sets. Another plus to these new ones is that they have 9 to 12 shorts on each disc instead of 4 to 6. These new sets blow those others out of the water.

The first volume used a promo shot from Swing Parade of 1946 (which isn't a Columbia film) and had shots of shorts from the later years.

Thanks, mcfly! I thought I had read that back when the first volume was released, but I couldn't remember.

Mine shipped from DeepDiscount yesterday, I haven't even gotten through all the shorts on volume two yet! I love how quickly these are being released.

Me too. I can't wait until Tuesday - going to hop over to Fry's and pick it up.
