They are also releasing Jungle Book 2 and 101 Dalmatians 2 as special editions. Will we ever see Little Mermaid 2 as a special edition? Hopefully when the 3rd one comes out in August we will.

so when Disney releases films like this... and just recently The Aristocats, does that mean that they will NEVER be released as Platinum Editions?
Dumbo and Tarzan are other releases that i would ask the same thing about...

Are you serious you want Little Mermaid 2 as a special edition? I could think of a whole lot more movies I would rather see then LM2. That movie was terrible.
When are we getting our Lilo & Stitch 2 disc set? I'm glad I didn't hold off on buying the first release to wait for that one.

in that respect, it seems hard to think that aristocats and sword in the stone probably won't make the jump. the platinum edition was initially supposed to be comprised of the top-10-selling animated classics in disney's library. that's what set them apart.
which kinda sucks, because i think dumbo certainly earns a spot in the platinum edition line just because of the quality of the film. the "big top" edition was eh.
tarzan received a nice two-disc special edition when it first came out also, so it's possible they might re-release it eventually.
but disney seems to be aiming towards families/lazy parents now so they cram their dvds with lame interactive games instead of filling them up with "fan" stuff in my opinion. and several titles that were initially advertised as 2-discs (aristocats, tarzan special edition) ended up being downgraded to 1-disc.
and it would never happen, but i wish they would release a "masterpiece edition" or something of each disney film, giving it a criterion-type treatment devoted specifically for enthusiasts, not kids. only commentaries, docs, etc. no games and crap like that. even put it in a limited run like the treasures line if they don't wanna mass produce it. i know disney fans would love that, but it's probably not going to make money, so probably will never happen.
but back on thread topic... how do the features of the "gold collection" version of sword in the stone compare to this new "anniversary edition." this edition seems kinda bare... are they really just upgrading so we can add a slipcover to our collection?

I honestly have never cared for this film - it's too quaint and trite for it's own good, but I'm curious to see what the extras will be - as I recall there were some songs that were written and recorded but never actually then animated.

I had a feeling this wouldn't get a whole lot of extras, this sounds similar to the Robin hood release.
