Cloverfield --> 22 April 2008 [merged]

I'm not entirely sure how much I am going to believe ABC morning news, but they are reporting that the DVD & HD-DVD releases are being set for "early april".

The ABC news is not that far fetch since most releases have a 3 month window from theatrical release to DVD release.

Agree, I don't need to see it more than once, and besides they will probably have a part 2 if I know hollywood.

Well, I was going to see it this week but might as well save some money and wait to rent it on HD-DVD.

Go see it at a theater! It kicked ass. I'm not sure a home viewing will be as fun, but I'm definitely buying the dvd on release day.

I was already 50/50 on seeing it and the fact that my theater-going experience continually becomes negative with each trip, I'm skipping this one. In fact, looking over the schedule (through the summer), there really are only a handful of movies I want to see in the theater (Indy 4, Iron Man, Hulk 2, The Dark Knight). The rest will be a wait and see...

I believe it's being released and distributed by Paramount, which is still (for now) HD-DVD exclusive.

Already, wow that's a pretty fast announcement. Hopefully we will get a commentary from J.J. and Matt Reeves as well. Would love to hear their thoughts on this film.

I have to agree. I think the theatrical experience helps make the movie what it is: the screaming from the audience, the laughter, and the screams all really added to what was going on. But then again I saw this in a college town at 9pm on opening night (ie, it was sold out and the average age was probably 21/22).

I'll be picking up the standard-dvd and waiting for the Blu-ray.

This seems so quick that I'm wondering if there will be any extras. I think it would be interesting to see all the behind the scenes of the marketing of the film and the internet frenzy. The movie is pretty simple so I can't imagine that a commentary would be too interesting.

The plot might be simple but the behind the scenes and making of this movie sounds incredible and complex and I'd love to hear how they did it. "How to Make a $150 million Monster Movie on a $30 Million Budget" as it were.

At least I can confirm that April is correct!

This movie was much better than I thought it would be! I really hope it's a loaded 2-discer as well. I dunno how they'd be able to incorporate all the online stuff... I guess making DVD-ROM features? And while this is doubtful, I hope they'd add some type of "documentary" discussing the history of the monster/attack, kinda like they had for the witch on The Blair Witch dvd.
