That must be the case. Those are way too many AB titles disappearing from production all at once.


On a side note, according to Best Buy's Sunday circular Disney's "Peter Pan" and "Little Mermaid" Platinum releases are being "put back in the vault" so those will no longer be in production, along with related titles (the 3-DVD collections).

Last Time Lion King was advertised like that, it disappeared from store shelves in a few months. There are still great prices on these titles on-line, so buy now while you can (Best Buy is selling them for $19.99-- too high... for now).

I wouldn't assume that at all.

For the past 6 months Starz Anchor Bay has been releasing only new films (Righteous Kill, The Visitor, Surfer, Dude) and direct to dvd stuff.

There has been the occasional over-priced collectors ed. like Halloween or that Heathers locker, but they seem to be moving away from catalog titles.

Lions Gate is picking up a lot of the slack. They re-released Wicker Man, Bad Boys, Un Flic, Prince & The Pauper, Diva, and have the upcoming Peter Sellers and Alec Guiness Boxes, as well as other old Anchor Bay OOP stuff like Cross Creek and Hiding Out.

Additionaly, Amazon seems to be dipping their toes into the dvd-r world, offering burn on demand copies of old Anchor Bay stuff like Quatermass 2.

I'll bet most of the old cult titles will reappear soon, but not from Starz.

When it says Tales From the Crypt: The Complete 1st to 7th Seasons is that only the bundled version? I will literally freak out if the whole show is going OOP. I still need to collect some of the sets.

The 7th Season was the last. I would expect the 'Complete Series' box to appear soon (which I will buy in 2010 for 19.99 during HBO Gold Box week).

I'm glad to hear it is only the bundle. Has a complete series box-set already been announced? I would like to know if one has. I need to decide on whether or not to continue collecting these sets or wait for a better (perhaps less expensive) collection.

I think I have most of those Anchor Bay discs that I want, with the possible exception of "Race with the Devil."

I wonder if we'll be seeing more ABs going OOP in the coming weeks? Or are all of these movies owned by the same company, and AB/Starz just chose not to renew the rights?

The majority of the recent OOP stuff has been 20th Century Fox.

The question is, is Fox going to do anything with them or give them to a boutique company like Legend?

Probably not. When Starz picked up Anchor Bay, they were making releases under the joint label Anchor Bay/Starz. But after a few months, opted to drop the "Starz". Opting to keep the "Anchor Bay" label unique.

Is there any way we could organize these by how much people will care about them? I hate having to root through titles like "Skateboarding Explained" and "NASCAR Baby: Raising Tomorrow's NASCAR Fan Today!" in order to find titles that I will actually care about if they were to go out of print.

They are sorted by Studio/Label.... so just scan down the Studio column until you find a Studio that releases titles you are interested in (and skip the odd-ball ones). Odds are, you don't recognize the Studio, there's nothing there you would care about.

I know we all have busy lives, but it usually only takes me about 1-2 minutes to scan down the list. Maybe 3-4 minutes if it's a two-parter. If that's too much time out of your day once a week, maybe collecting DVD's isn't the correct hobby for you. And who would be the judge to decide, anyway, if a skateboarding DVD is of lesser interest than some awful big-studio romantic comedy? It's all relative. The alphabetical-by-studio list format works great. If the studios' products were all mixed together, it would be even harder to skim past product by a particular company that you have no interest in.

I don't mind having to go through the junk titles at all. Sometimes I see something on there that I had been interested in remotely in the past. Seeing those titles on the list makes me go ahead and get them.

Your work is always appreciated mcarver. At the very least the list is interesting on which titles have somehow not went OOP yet or ones that are odd to go OOP so soon (Indy IV 2-disk is already OOP? I assume that's because they made tons of them in a short period of time)

A couple items on the recently OOP list I am going to look into picking up soon.
