Exorcist III Director's Cut: IS IT HAPPENING?

I know this has been discussed before but does anyone have any updated information regarding a possible director's cut of this fantastic film?

I have heard that the original footage shot for the Exorcist III has been lost so I won't get my hopes up too much. Although it would be nice to at least get a commentary from William Peter Blatty.

This and a director's cut of 1492: Conquest of Paradise would be nice to see some time during my life!

I've heard nothing. I think during the last WB online chat they said they don't have any plans currently to revisit the film for a SE. But I wouldn't say it'll never happen. It might eventually, but I wouldn't exactly count on a new cut of the film. That seems like too much effort for WB to make on a film like this.

Cannabis,

I don't suppose starting a petition would do any good. Don't think there is enough demand. Bummer.

WB also needs to release the full uncut version of Ken Russell's 'The Devils' (that they keep promising)... in my lifetime. [a sad pathetic 'please' emulates from the bottom of my throat]

That's another vote for The Devils...and a special edition of Altered States.

Yeah, there was some steam behind the rumor a year or two ago... Since then, nothing.

I picked Alien 3.

In the last chat they did say they were working on a disc for The Devils right now. They didn't even give any kind of a time table but at least we know it IS currently being worked on.

it seems like WB been saying that for at least the last three years, what are they waiting for... for the stars to realign??

'Cruising' - director's cut.... 'Blade Runner' - Final cut ... 'Eyes Wide Shut' - uncut Euro version .... 'The Devils' uncensored - ??? (when oh when!)

I think its just a matter of finding all the elements to do it up right. Same thing with Magnificent Ambersons...They say they have big plans, but don't have everything they need to do it right.

I went with Exorcist III.

By this point, I think anyone who is interested in the Alien films, knows the story behind three and since the release of the restored extended cut, the acclaim for the film has finally come forth. I personally rank the restored cut second only to the original Alien, and I know a lot of people who feel the same way about it.

Bobafett,

That's an excellent point. I am completely on board with you regarding Alien 3. It is much more highly regarded now in light of the restored cut and is only a fraction behind the greatness achieved by the first one. The Exorcist III is much more of an anomoly.

If only Fincher could have swallowed his pride and participated.

I agree, the restored Alien 3 is excellent.
