Top DVD Releases Sept - Dec 2007
There are a number of great DVD releases coming between September and December of this year that I thought it would be helpful to make a list with the release date. This is by no means comprehensive but it’s what I would consider the top releases. The purpose here is not to provide all the DVD title content details – see that title’s individual thread.
Sept. 11th
Face/Off – I believe this had had only 1 other release back in 1998, so this 2-disc Collector’s
Edition is long over due. One of John Woos’ better films.
The Graduate Thread Link – One of the all time classics which may actually get a proper release this
time as a 40th Anniversary edition. In DTS sound – can’t wait.
Sept. 18th
Deliverence Thread Link – another classic film that is finally getting a proper release. One of Burt
Reynolds better movies
Death Proof Thread Link – Half of the Grindhouse double feature from Quentin Tarantino Robert. Some
people are upset about the split from the other movie.
I don’t see the big deal. Here your getting an extended version of the movie
and a choice between a really cool DVD cover and a steelbook version.
October 2th
Caligula Thread Link – I know it’s a piece of crap but I have a morbid curiosity of what they can put
on 4 discs and the commentary with Malcolm McDowell and Helen Miren should
be a hoot.
Star Trek – The Next Generation – The complete Series
Now they've gone and done it. Yeah it’s pricey but I’m trying to save shelf space.
Ebay here I come with my single seasons.
October 16th
Planet Terror Thread Link – the other half of the Grindhouse double feature. This one is done by
Robert Rodriquez. Even though I prefer Death Proof, I’ll pick this up as well.
For those who want the Grindhouse they saw in theaters, there’s always
next year or maybe the year after that or the following year (see Kill Bill)
October 23th
Stanley Kubrick Collection Thread Link – could the 3rd time be the charm? I’m torn between getting the
set or the individual releases. The cover art I’ve seen
(especially for Clockwork Orange) is fantastic.
October 30th
Twin Peaks: The Definitive Gold Box Edition Thread Link – for me this is the 2nd most important
release of the year. Finally after teasing us
for 6 years with Season 1 release and earlier
this year with Season 2, the whole damn thing
with the Pilot is coming out together.
Spiderman 3 Thread Link – Here you have quite a few choices: DVD Single, DVD Double, BR, and BR 3 Pack
November 6th
Chinatown Special Collector’s Edition Thread Link – damn and I just bought this at the last DD sale thinking
I got a great deal. Another really cool cover
November 13th
Shrek The 3rd Thread Link – my daughter can’t wait for this one
November 20th
Led Zeppelin - The Song Remains the Same Thread Link – I understand this will have 14 songs from the
Concert plus unreleased material.
December 4th
Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World's End – Since I have the other 2 then this is a no brainer
December 18th
Blade Runner Thread Link – this is the one we’ve all been waiting for and from the looks of what’s included
(up to 5 discs) it’s well worth the wait. But what the buy? The Digi-pack or
the attaché case or even go hi-def. This could be the release push me over
the edge to hi-def.
December 25th
Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair Thread Link – this has been rumored to be coming out for some time and
finally it’s going to happen. I held off buying the barebones
V1 & V2 knowing this would eventually come up. Who
thought it would take over 3 years. Merry Christmas
No Release date but coming - Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Sorry if I left off any of your favorites but these are what I feel are the top releases for Sept – Dec 2007. Feel free to add your choices or comment on what’s listed.

Well, yeah, but I guess this thread was more of a "Which dvds we're looking forward to the most" deal.

Yes this is not necessarily geared towards the "artier films" so maybe someone should start a seperate thread highlighting those releases.

A Bout De Souffle
Days of Heaven
The Jazz Singer
Kill Bill The Whole Bloody Affair
O Lucky Man!

This is a good excuse to update my DVD Profiler wishlist..
August 14
The Lookout
After Brick, I'm seeing this just for Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
Fracture
Please, Ryan Gosling, make me forget Murder By Numbers..
August 28
Heroes: Season One
The hiatus really killed the momentum of this show for me, I think a Heroes marathon will be good.
September 4
The Office: Season Three
I'm hoping Joss Whedon does some commentary for his episode.
30 Rock: Season One
I'm hoping for Alec Baldwin & Tracey Morgan outtakes.
September 11
Tom & Jerry: Spotlight Collection 3
October 2
The Comedians of Comedy: Live At the Troubadour
We get another C.O.C. DVD, but no word on the six episodes that aired on Comedy Central? I'll glady take more C.O.C., but I want it all!
October 9
28 Weeks Later
October 30
Spiderman 3
November 6
Ratatouille
Rob & Big: The Complete Seasons 1 & 2 (Uncensored)
My DVD player is gonna do work, son!
November 13
Oceans Thirteen
December 4
Smurfs: Season One, part one
December 11
Transformers
Maybe Nip/Tuck: Season Four, if someone can tell me that the show is good again after wasting the third season on all the Carver bullshit. And I'm waiting on Entourage until they release the complete season, not two different parts.
I'm hoping HBO doesn't waste any time releasing Flight of the Conchords: Season One. Best Buy can have a bonus Team Building Exercise '99 t-shirt, WalMart can give away a small Albi The Racist Dragon statue, and Target's exclusive can be a pair of business socks.

Back on topic, the upcoming releases I'm most looking forward to are Desperate Housewives: Season 3 (9/4) and Twilight Zone: The Movie (finally!!) (10/9), not to mention Hairspray and The Simpsons Movie, which haven't been announced yet, but will probably be out in December.

Posters are starting to do kinda what I had in mind. I guess I didn't communicate too well. My list is not necessarily going to be your list so whatever your are looking forward to the next 4+ months then please post. Different strokes for different folks.
And as RobCA pointed out, DVDTalk's release list is not complete.
