i like them regardless of the extra cost as long as they are well made and relate to/remind me of the movie they are associated with. a nice collectible might even make me purchase a set that i would not have been interested in otherwise.

i'm in the process of selling my house and usually supposed to take things down/pack em up, but i'll be damned if i take my shrines down. i love dvd's and anything extra that i can get that displays that love (particularly for the movies i love the mostest) i am more than proud to show off.

Yay! I'm a sucker for that kind of stuff. Everything from the craptastic rubber Red Queen action figure, the LEGO-like bride from the Kill Bill R2 boxset, and the Robbie the Robot figure all the way to the higher quality Hellboy bust, Dark Waters demonic amulet, and the Phantasm sphere. And then there's the tins which is a whole 'nother level. Of course, they have to be from films I actually enjoy.

Eh, if I wanted something like that, I'd pay $2 for a Happy Meal from Mcdonald's. :/
But to each, his/her own.

I find it hard to believe I lucked out and found the only girl in the world that doesn't mind the collectibles (and in some cases encourages them: she absolutely *had* to have the Invader Zim house-shaped box).

I've been married for 11 years now, so I think I can speak with a smidgen of authority: If a few knick-knacks here and there really turn her off, you don't want her.

What's more likely is they don't like how they're organized. Keep them neat and dusted, and the females are far less likely to say anything about them. Try putting them on nice bookshelves, or even in a glass cabinet. If it looks like you're putting some attention into them, that'll go a long way in the relationship department.

Can't get enough of them.
Sony/Columbia could fill a black shoebox with sand, a happy meal wind-up spider-man, and the Spidey 3 DVD, and I'd be all over it.

I'm a collector. I like collectibles. End of story. If a studio wants to give me some free toys for buying something I would have bought to begin with, I'm happy to oblige.

It depends. If a version of a movie is released with the toy, and there's another version available without the toy (but the content on the discs are identical), I'll usually go with the version without the toy.

Now, in the case of Blade Runner, for example, the 5 disc set comes with all the collectibles and the like. Now I'd pick that up, since that's the only way to get the 5th disc with the workprint version.

With the exeption of the Seinfeld "Gift Sets", how come more TOD titles don't have "Toys"/Collectables included?

I think it needs to be addressed because, 1) this is a DVD forum and this is DVD related, and 2) companies are in some cases forcing consumers to buy stuff you will simply throw away in order to get all of the DVD content.

I personally don’t care either way, I would never display them myself, but I'm not going to begrudge someone who does. For those saying that most of us object to it because we worry what females think, it could be that we simply really don't like it. People have different tastes, what one person thinks looks cool, someone else thinks looks tacky and immature.

The only complaint I have is against being forced to buy crap and pay a premium because I want all of the disc content (I'm looking at YOU Blade Runner).

For all of you men out there thinking that every woman would have a problem with you putting your collectibles out, you're quite wrong. I'm a girl, and my fiance can put his toys/collectibles anywhere he wants, and I even encourage it. Our DVDs and collectibles take up our whole room, and I wouldn't have it any other way. In fact, if he wasn't a film/collectible geek, I probably wouldn't be with him. It's one of the many things that attracted me to him.

If your wife/girlfriend can appreciate something that makes you happy, maybe you're with the wrong one

Yeah, and women can certainly be just as bad with things like dolls and stuffed animals.

For me though, it's just that I've never been much of a decorator. I've never been into buying things just to put up on display, and that includes posters. I'd rather buy things that can be used.

Not liking toys or other over the top displayed in a comunial/family area (like a living room) does not make a spouse "the wrong one". If my wife demanded that I allow her to display Strawberry Shortcake memorabilia I would'nt let her. That doesn't make me a bad person.

Lets face it most men and woman have very different tastes and forcing your partner to accept your extravagant decorating tastes would make YOU the wrong one.

No one is forcing anyone to do anything, but I've noticed the people who don't like the collectibles get really defensive about it.

Don't get so damn defensive. Not everything that gets put on display is "over-the-top." A couple of collectibles here and there is not "extravagant decorating tastes." No one is forcing anyone to accept anything in my relationship, and that wasn't even what I referring to. It's the fact that you give a little and get a little. If my fiance wants to put the Matrix bust on his desk, then fine...go right ahead. And if I want to put something in the living room, then he would let me. My fiance and I have the same decorating tastes, the same interest and the same hobbies, and I would never have him lock up collectibles and nice display items because I don't want them in my living room.

Lastly, I'm not insulting your wife, so don't come barrelling at me full force. It was my opinion, and I'm entitled to it, just like you are.

Yes. Not that I'd want every release to come with a "toy", but I like the LOTR EE extras and I did pre-order the Blade Runner suitcase. Other than that I don't, but only because I'd rather spend my money on other DVDs, but if they were the right price & I really like the movie/DVD then I'd be all for it.

Nay. Most of my DVDs didn't come with them, but when I have gotten ahold of some toys they usually end up at the bottom of a drawer never to be seen again. I think the Robotech sets came with little robot things... my cats liked those.

Sorry, but I just think they're gawdy and useless and I would never display them.

On a side note, the Halo 3 Legendary Edition comes with a plastic helmet and costs $130. I know that belongs in another forum entirely, but I think it makes a point......

Nay. Not only do I not want to pay extra for those sets, but it's just something to collect dust.
