Definitive list of exclusive bonus discs (and other freebies) - Part 1b

Ok, our longtime first thread was closed without warning, due to length.
Since it was closed, I can not easily copy and paste it, as all the formatting is lost. I will work on it and get this first post edited with the complete list soon.
In the meantime, please refer to the old thread for lists of all store exclusives, and continue discussion here.

Edit - Nemein has kindly given me the old first post complete with formating codes. However, the forum bug that prevents editing of long first posts has appeared as usual. I may have to start another thread, or break up that first post into multiple.

Sorry all, this may be a work in progress for a week or two. This might be a good time to do a major overhaul. Since we can't have long posts (until the bug is fixed), maybe I'll take this opportunity to update the list with all of the 2007 entries, and then break it off into separate posts by store. Sound good? Any other ideas? Now is a good time to make changes.

Definitive list of exclusive bonus discs - Part 1

Anybody been to Suncoast to see what this bonus disk is?

http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showpost.ph...&postcount=775
Suncoast will have an exclusive bonus DVD for 300 in July. However, no info was available as to what the exclusive might contain.

Yep, I thought we fully discussed this in the first thread? Looking....yep, info back near the end of that thread. I haven't watched it in full yet, but it looks pretty good.

Mod note: WRT closing the previous thread, it's been stipulated threads should be closed after about 800 posts. I'm told it has something to do w/ the server and how it handles long threads. If you want to discuss this point further please take it to the feedback forum.

WRT how to make sure the 2nd thread stays open longer I'm pretty sure deleted posts don't count against the thread post total so making sure people delete their posts once the info is incorporated into the main post should help. I haven't been following this thread so I don't know if this is the case, but keeping the general discussion/"me too" type posts should help keep the post count down.

Just some thoughts...

Heads up on Hot Fuzz - if you want the bonus disc with all the cool extras, get it at Wal-Mart.

Trevor,
I saw the listing for the 300 Bonus Disk available from FYE
http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showpost.ph...&postcount=899

But I didn't see anything on the one available from Suncoast.

Okay, I'm an idiot. I just called Suncoast and they informed me that they are the same company as FYE. The disks are the same.

did anyone buy the target exclusive 300 deluxe version? if so, i am wondering a few things:

1. what's up with the exclusive download? there's a little paper inside that gives u a code to DL stuff? and what do u get? is it worth it?

2. the 90 minutes of bonus features touted by target... is that just the same stuff on the deluxe edition included on the best buy helmet version?

How about this for a plan?

I'm leaning towards starting a new thread for our list, with a separate post for each store. That should help with the forum error of editing long posts.

And then, for a big change, what do you all think about putting the weekly list in the Bargain forum? Seems to be more appropriate there perhaps, as it is a list of all the incentives at every retailer. I'd still update the master list in the main DVD Talk forum (as the software allows), but it would not fill up with as many posts and clog the forum software.

Disturbia has a bonus disc of some sort. When I was at Wal-Mart getting Fuzz they had a cardboard slip over the security devices at the door with a picture of the side-by-side packaging with two amaray cases.

I like having all the bonus disks and extras being in the same post. If each store was in it's own thread, then each week, we would have to check 11 or so threads to see what was available for each week.

Perhaps a new thread could be started each month. For example...

Definitive list of exclusive bonus discs 08/2007
Definitive list of exclusive bonus discs 09/2007
Definitive list of exclusive bonus discs 10/2007

And perhaps a thread for the master list that only you update.

Definitive list of exclusive bonus discs (Master List)

This way, the threads would never get too long. It would be easy to find the Master List. And, if you were seaching back, it would be easy to find a particular post because you could search back through the threads by date.

Whadd'ya think?

Good ideas Mark. But I was never going to have a separate thread for each, just a separate post in the master thread. Long posts can not be editied sometimes due to a forum software bug, which is why I haven't been able to update our master list since January.

So the master thread (we'll delete this thread and call that one "Definitive.....part 2), will have 7 or so posts right at the top. One post with a weekly updated list of all BB bonus discs ever released, one post for CC, one for Target, one for Walmart, one for the TWEC stores, one for all bookstores, one for all others, with maybe an explanation, historical links post at the top.

I sorta like your idea of monthly lists in the bargain forum, but am leaning towards keeping it weekly.

So, as long as I can update the posts in the master thread, you really only have to look at 2 threads each week. That current week's thread/list, and the master list if you want.

I would hope that the weekly lists get the bulk of the questions and other replies, but that the master list gets very few posts (so that I don't have the hassle of moving it every year or so). We could try what nemein suggested and have people delete their posts once the lists are updated, but that never works in any thread I've seen on this site. I pushed it in the first thread, but everyone ignored that request and rarely deleted their posts.

And maybe in the first post of every weekly thread, I'll have links to the master list, the previous week's thread, and the next week's thread.

Oops, I just re-read your post Mark. I think I see where you're going.

Maybe monthly would work, but it wouldn't really be much different from closing down as and starting a part 3, etc, as it gets too big. I think the only benefit would be in finding posts about an exclusive by date. But that shouldn't be too big of a request, if I do a good job with cutting and pasting into the master posts.

Anyway, I'm usually very impatient and would just start the new plan, but I'm going to try to be patient and keep things as is for a week or two, and see what ideas come up.

If anyone can snag me an extra 300 Bonus Disc from FYE (or Suncoast), I'd really appreciate it. I've been to 2 FYEs and 1 Suncoast and neither would let me get one if I bought 300 from them. Everyone told me it was for pre-orders only.

Just wondering if anyone online site have a separte listing for their bonus items? I noticed that Bestbuy.ca has a section here. Which you ship or do instock pickup.

Otherwise, is there a way to get the store to hold a bonus item for you?

You can search for exclusive at Walmart and see most of them.

And I would doubt it on the holding stuff for you, but it wouldn't hurt to just call them and ask.

Johnsun, your PMs are full, so here is my reply.

Hi. Actually, I was wondering about "The Villains of Spider-Man 3".. Is that disc avaliable stand alone byitself? I don't really get their "exclusive" that has older released DVD packed in with it..

BTW: I guess you're still working on how the thread will work, but are there plans to update the first post master list on the first bonus dvd thread?
Later
As far as I know, the villians disc is a WM exclusive available only in that pack with SM 2.1.
And yep, the master list will be updated eventually. A forum software bug prevents the editing of long posts, but I'll work around it here in the next month or so. Everything is in that first thread, but for 2007 stuff you'll have to scroll thru the weekly lists in that thread.
