Godfather Trilogy 1901-1980 dvd anytime soon?

I was just watching this on Bravo right now and i was wondering if there is a dvd version of it coming anytime soon? I have the vhs set but i would love to have this version of the trilogy with all the extra scenes on dvd. So does anybody have any info?

It would be nice. Some of the scenes help make sense of the Don's decisions. But in some cases, the added scenes are too expository and reveal too much. Closest you may come to this on dvd for a while is a transfer of the laserdiscs to dvd. . .

The weird thing about the laserdisc presentation is the revenge scene of young Corleone returning to Sicily is shown out of sequence. It's almost like they forgot that one in the editing room, so it appears in the same spot as it originally did during Godfather II. I do not believe this happens on the VHS set. Very odd if you ask me.

i was thinking of this a few days back. hoping the trilogy hits hd-dvd, and that the chronological version would show up in any form again.

I found a sealed serial numbered Godfather Complete Saga VHS set at a local flea market for $25 recently. I was able to flip the set for $95 on Ebay, nice quick profit there. People are STILL buying the video sets to get the 3 movies in chronological order....

They're talking about a reedited version that has the three movies pieced together chronologically.

As long as they show every deleted scene!
THE COMPLETE NOVEL & THE TRIOLGY each have scenes not in both sets.

Oh, it'll happen. Paramount is great for milking titles over and over again while neglecting its unreleased catalog stuff. Thank God they are licensing to Criterion now.

There's a new release of The Godfather trilogy coming? I've been holding off purchasing any of the films...

Is there a known date?

I've always loved the "Saga" version of Godfather I and II as an alternative vision of story presented by those two films. Admittedly, you lose the potency given by juxtaposition of the paths taken by Vito and Michael. However, whatever the Saga loses in presenting the Corleone family story chronologically, it gives the family history a grander, yet simultaneously more personal scale as the viewer can experience nearly the whole of the characters linearly.

The "added" scenes are some of my favorites as well: the attack on Fanucci, Michael and Kay in the hotel, the young actress in Wolf's home, the renaming of Hyman "Suchowsky", Michael's revenge on Fabrizzio, Vito's murdering of Don Ciccio's associates before killing the Don himself, and numerous others. Cumutively, they give an already rich story added depth in part by adding even more parellels between the rise of Vito and Michael.

I'm happy to own both Godfather I and II on DVD in their theatrical release versions but would eagerly buy a "Saga" version should it become available. If Godfather III is included, I can always use another coaster when I have company. Some people should stick to performing gymnastics routines for their husband's music videos

Of course, she didn't even do that...it was a body double. But, I'm too harsh. I love Sofia. Look at it this way...the bad criticism she got for portraying Mary Corleone pushed her into the director's chair (if you happen to like her movies).

I did know about the body double, but it's still my favorite line to use when dimissing III. Of her directorial work, I've only seen "Lost in Translation" which didn't impress me at all, but I've heard good things about "Virgin Suicides".

I would, however, love to have a version of III that features nothing but Eli Wallach's scenes strung together. He's the only part of that movie I truly enjoy.
