VHS not yet on DVD?

Does anyone know of an online list of VHS titles that are not yet available on DVD? I am not sure if one exists, but if anyone has any ideas it would be very helpful. Thank you.

That would be a very, very long list, albeit filled mostly with movies few people have heard of.

That guy on Amazon needs to update his list, since a few of the ones he's wanting, ARE now on DVD!

Grab a copy of the Maltin Guide. There are icons for laserdisc, VHS and DVD - and the icon(s) for the issued formats appear at the end of each title's description.

You will quickly see that there are literally thousands of VHS titles that have not yet appeared on DVD.

Literally several thousand. It may seem like the studios are putting out their catalog faster than we can keep up sometimes but they have only scratched the surface compared to what got put out on tape. I still have at least a couple hundred tapes that have not been released on dvd yet.

Videocassette ruled for over 20 years. DVD has been around for 9. Obviously 11 years less time is going to mean a smaller range of available titles. There's a bunch of stuff that never saw the light of day on videotape either (like a lot of old serials, vintage 1-reels, and B-movies, for instance). And then there's stuff that's been lost forever to time. Add to that all the rights issues that have popped up in the meantime...

You're probably much more interested in the popular modern films that still have not been released on DVD. There are a bunch of threads dedicated to that very topic. Here are a few:

80s Horror Wish List: NOT on DVD yet

Movies that should be on dvd

What DVD non-release has been driving you crazy for the longest time?

what films have never been released on dvd?

Never coming to DVD...so VHS as an alternative?

what will never be available on DVD, but is on laser disc?

Movies not on DVD, but should be..

I collect odd rare and hard to find sci fi, horror, cult, action and cheesy b-movies (and sell them on ebay as well) and there are thousands of movies yet to be released on DVD. I have a walk in closet full of VHS videos.

LOL! The only film mentioned in the thread and it's one of my two main remaining wants since REDS got released. From Beyond and Night of the Comet.

Ditto. I still have a few boxes of VHS that aren't yet available on DVD.

I think if there were a DVDTalk poll, these would end up being our Top Ten:

Howard the Duck
Night of the Comet
Monster Squad
1492: Conquest of Paradise
Song of the South
The Legend of Billy Jean
Rad
The African Queen
Twin Peaks: Season 2
The Wonder Years

At least those are the ones I hear mentioned the most.

I talked with someone at a used DVD shop last weekend who loves this film as well (they had a used VHS copy and I was looking at it) and says he believes Paramount to be holding the DVD back until Warner pitches out a DVD for the horrible Christopher Columbus: The Discovery. Anybody think there could be any truth to this? IMO I don't care, they need to release a DVD for the film on the region 1 market.

I've got probably two dozen LDs of movies not currently on DVD. I'm pretty sure they were all on VHS at some point.
