And the special editions of Halloween 4 and 5 will feature the same bonus content (Halloween 4: Final Cut and On the Set of Halloween 5) as the previous releases, along with commentaries--which, if I'm not mistaken, are brand new. Glad to be getting the old featurettes and trailers; never got those releases.

Combine these with all the interviews and behind-the-scenes extras on 25 Years of Terror, and we should have an excellent overall package. Very cool.

Stamina: Sweet! Thanks for the information! Looks great!

Looks like the "On the Set" featurette is new; thought that was carried over from the 2000 release.

Now if only they would reissue the original Halloween with the correct transfer and all features from both releases!

Really, I think the original has been done enough. Would much rather have special editions of Halloween 6 and Halloween H20. High hopes the upcoming release of Halloween 9 will inspire Disney to do something about them.

Yes. At the very least, they should rerelease them with 16x9 enhanced transfers.

Done a lot, yes, but done definitively right? No. I agree with Julie 100% and would prefer the original done right (with a remaster of the extended TV edit to boot) than these rehashes of 4 and 5 with minimal added features...

As many releases of the original Halloween as we have had, I would still quintuple-dip if they finally got it right (i.e. correct transfers, both cuts of the film, and all the extras found on the various releases). I'm Anchor Bay's bitch when it comes to Halloween.

I agree, I've been holding out on the Divimax version of 'Halloween' since it came out in hopes that a definitve release woudl come along down the line since I already own the movie twich over (6 times if you cound VHS, Laserdisc, and Recording).

Honestly this would not be that hard. Release Halloween 6 with the producer cut (or the theaterical cut with the producer cut material as a bonus feature), add an audio commentary, a press-featurette that has to be laying aroudn somewhere, the trailer and There done. Halloween H20 even easier record a commentary or two (if I'm not mistake Jamie Lee Curtis in under contract for a commentary), and there was soo much promotion and hype over this film they have to have a lot of stuff in the vaults, throw that together.

At even $29.99 MSRP, they would sell a bunch to people like us that just want the collection together, with decent specs.

I'm not necessarily opposed to yet another release of Halloween. One that includes the original transfer, theatrical and TV cuts, commentary, and all documentaries and featurettes unique to the Limited and 25th Anniversary Edition DVDs.

What I don't appreciate so much is having the same film revisited time after time--especially when it's already presented so well between two releases--while some of its sequels continue to languish in sub-par treatments. That's my problem.

I have less of an issue with this, since you're dealing with different companies.

Yes, Halloween II really is crying out for a SE... but that's Universal's issue.

Yes, Halloween 6 and H2O are also prime candidates for SEs... but Disney's the boss there.

Anchor Bay just needs to focus on 1, 4, and 5. Sounds like 4+5 are getting a (slight) upgrade in a month, which is great. But they really should also consider -- maybe for '07? -- sprucing up the original film into an ultimate edition that corrects the terrible color issues that plague the Divimax edition, and includes all of the great extras that they've included over the years.

This is true. Just saying that I prefer to hear of special edition re-releases of movies that have none, from whatever companies own them, than re-releases of movies that have already been available in multiple special edition forms of substantial quality.

How sweet would be a 4-disc set in honor of the 30th anniversary! Both cuts of the film (color-timed to match Dean Cundey's approved transfer), original and new commentaries, and as much documentary footage as they can find. Would be a perfect tie-in with the Rob Zombie "remake" coming next year. I've spent much on this film, but I would gladly hand over the plastic for that baby.

Are the complaints about the original on DVD that the transfer on the LE was correct but that the 25th Anniversary has the extra extras like the old Criterion commentary?

I just never realized that people were so unhappy with the presentation of the film on DVD.

rmick, the Divimax transfer on the 25th Anniversary edition is technically cleaner and sharper than the original L.E., but it completely dispenses with cinematographer Dean Cundey's carefully designed color scheme for the film--it's a one step forward, one step back transfer. If the L.E.'s color scheme can be merged with the 25th Anniversary's clarity, then we'd have a winner. As it is now, I'm only interested in watching what the filmmakers intended me to see, so I stick with the L.E.

The color scheme on the Divimax version is completly screwed up. Back when it was released, there was a long thread about it, with jarring photos. I would not buy it!

See for yourself on how bad the color is!!!!

I wish Universal would just license out Halloween 2 to Anchor Bay if they don't plan on doing something with it. If anything, license out the H2 TV Cut and let Anchor Bay put extras/commentaries on that. That way Universal could still have exclusivity to the theatrical edition and yet could make licensing money off something they have no plans of releasing themselves anyway.

Agreed. With all of the 'special extended editions' that have come out in the past few years (seems like almost an epidemic!), I'm very surprised that the extended H2 hasn't seen the light of day.

I know the current Universal disc (which replaced the non-anamorphic Goodtimes release) was originally planned with a director's commentary and other goodies. It got scaled back for some reason, but I still hold out hope that a true SE is down the road. Maybe next year...

how long is the actual documentary "25 years of terror" and how does it differ from the doc on the divimax release "a cut above the rest"

Why would anyone want the 'tv cut'?????

Did you actually see it? It airs on AMC once in awhile and is old school network editing. Which means it's butchured beyond recognition and hackly re-edited(scenes in new order) together destroying the flow of the film.

Why would anyone want to pay actual money to own that version of the film as it aired on tv?

The amount of deleted footage added to the 'tv cut' is very minimal(2 minutes or less),that it would be pointless to release the actual 'tv cut' which is laughably bad.

Even if AB added the tv footage into the 'theatrical' print and then re-edited scenes around to fit the chronology of the tv edit. It would still be unwatchably bad!
