So why did I buy it? The DVD made it better.

Does buying one you hate for someone else count? If so, I bought Pearl Harbor for an ex girlfriend and I cannot stand that movie!

I buy DVDs mostly for the movie and not the extras or packaging. So my answer is "none."

I didn't like "Phantasm", but I am giving it another chance with this awesome looking boxset...

If we are allowed to count DVDs bought for spouses, then yes and many.

I bought The Ring, but it was $0.99 CAD, and I'll probably never watch it. I bought the Matrix Collection, and gave all three movies another chance. I don't even like the first one that much anymore, but again, I got it for a low enough price that I could justify owning it. Same goes for the two Lion King sequels (again, $0.99 CAD for all THREE films together), Wild at Heart (need to give it a second chance, though), The Crow: City of Angels, and The Crow: Salvation.

I still refuse to buy The Lost World, though. God, what a horrible flick.

You people who are buying DVDs then saying the movie was horrible and no one should watch it aren't making any sense. If you HATE a movie, there is no reason to buy it for your collection, at least in my mind.

Phantom Menace is the only one I truly hate. Some others that are border line include

Jersey Girl - I tricked myself into loving it as a lot of star wars people seemed to about Phantom Menace the first time they saw it. It's not the worst movie but I might as well own Maid in Manhatten or some other crap film.

Dick Tracy - This movie was a lot more fun when the Al Pacino performace was viewed as him going over the top.

There were others but I sold them off. The only reason I keep these three is that I'm a big enough fan of star wars that I will want to sit down and watch them all back to back at least twice in my life, I still like Kevin Smith a lot, and no one would buy Dick Tracy for more that a dollar or two.

Hate is too strong a word when it comes to films...but I know what you're gettin' at. I was part of that Saw thread and I indeed did pick up the new edition mainly for the bloodcover.....just a visual snack for the library. I did not despise or hate the film....it's just a film that failed to grab me by the throat.

I have over 2,100 titles and except for a few milkduds that could go either way....I love them all. I have a fondness for extra stanky cheese.

Ok, a better way to put it might be:

What films would you not have bought on DVD, had it not been for the packaging, extras, etc...?

I can understand buying a DVD of a film that I hate though. Some DVDs have fantastic making ofs and the such, even for bad flicks. Then many have historical documentaries that aren't available on other DVDs.

How do you feel about the ex-girlfriend?

Seriously though, I don't understand why the substance-over-style people (you know, the "I buy it for the moooovie" ones) aren't ripping this thread a new asshole.

Had the Matrix & Matrix Reloaded on DVD. Decided to go with the Matrix Collection set (green box, no bust) to get the Revisited and the Animatrix pieces as blind buys, even though I really didn't like Revolutions.

Same goes with the Batman Anthology. Even though it was cheaper to just buy the box set than the first 3 individually, I still own Batman & Robin - and I can't break apart the box set.

Attack of the Clones (piece of garbage)and Revenge of the Sith (huge let down). Neither can compete with the genius that TPM is not to even mention the OT. But, I guess I got to have them on the shelf to complete the set.

Like others have mentioned, Crapman & Robin. I bought the Anthology cuz it was real cheap, but I hate that movie. At least the extras were interesting.

Others include Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection in the Quadrilogy. Legal Wreckin 4(again, great extras at least). Alias Season 3 I really didn't like, yet I bought it because I'm a completist. Same goes for Revenge of the Sith. I'll get that this week even though I thought the movie was terrible.

Add me to the list for The Phantom Menace. I bought into the hype at the time it was released & picked it up thinking it would be better after multiple viewings. I was wrong. It was returned...uh...defective.

I was pretty close to picking up Attack of the Clones when it was so cheap during release week ($9.99 at Toys r Us) but then I remembered I hated it. I also bought the SE of Pulp Fiction after initially not enjoying it, but it's since become one of my favorite movies.

I think this thread should be about movies that people think just downright suck, but, for some reason they have their ok moments and for that reason you bought it. For me, that would be "Weekend At Bernie's 2" I had to buy it, it sucks, but it has some mildly entertaining moments.

I don't think I could say I hate it, it just is a terrible film all around.

Never bought something that I know I hated. But I have had many blind buys that I hated or could not finish watching. I don't see the point in buying something if you already know that you hate it...

I bought American Pie on DVD out of a sense of obligation even though I hated it when I caught it theatrically. I just felt like it was something I was supposed to have. No idea why.

I bought "Titanic" when it was marked down just for the thrill of seeing an over 3-hour movie play uninterrupted, plus the sound was pretty cool and you can freeze-frame Kate Winslet naked
