Comments, Suggestions & Feedback for the 2023 Horror Challenge

A sampling of suggestions taken from OHMC 18. As always, apologies if I overlooked anybody.

The first case of having a theme/checklist entry that's both a centennial and memorial.

RIP Julian Sands

He hasn't been found yet, though sadly I don't think he magicked his way out of this one.

Re: Comments, Suggestions & Feedback for the 2023 Horror Challenge

It's been a long time coming, but this site is nowhere near as vibrant as it was a decade ago. Weve lost a lot of regular posters over the years, and the number of threads has diminished. I remember a time when the deepDiscount 20% off sales would spawn pages and pages of posts.

Re: Comments, Suggestions & Feedback for the 2023 Horror Challenge

Time for the annual bump, which I almost forgot without the usual Darkgod reminder post. But yes, I'm planning on hosting this year after that poorly-worded last post from the main thread, that is, providing the forum's still around. And yes, we're continuing with the much-needed changes implemented last year. Here's the post from last year's planning thread that explains everything if you were MIA. Look for the subset volunteer list in the next post.

The usual reminders...

  • Don't forget that if you want your new-for-2023 theme suggestions to be eligible for this year's list you'll need to get them in before the pre-challenge thread goes up. Of course, *any* suggestions (optional list-related or otherwise) at any time are always welcome because that's what this thread is for, and everything will be carried over.

  • The Facebook page still exists. Don't count on updates being automatically posted to your timeline because, well, Facebook sucks. You'll most likely need to periodically click the link since only a select few seem to receive that privilege.

  • The pre-challenge thread will go live in July. Last year's went up 7/10, so expect it sometime around then. The revealing of the theme list and subset prep starts soon after.

Re: Comments, Suggestions & Feedback for the 2023 Horror Challenge

I'm in for a subset too; looking forward to another Challenge and grateful to Chad for resuming host duties.

Here are some theme suggestions:
Weird Creatures (October 21 is National Repitle Awareness Day; October 4 is 'World Animal Day')- https://www.looper.com/294209/the-we...-film-history/
Sleepless Movies (Sleepover, Insomnia, Altered Consciousness, etc; maybe related to World Mental Health Day on October 10)- https://theabominabledrwelsh.blog/2022/02/04/sleeping-bags-and-pranks-seven-sleepover-horror-movies-to-keep-you-up-at-night/ , https://www.imdb.com/search/keyword/...leep-paralysis
Gorey Films (October 1 is 'National Voluntary Blood Donor Day') - https://www.imdb.com/list/ls057415258/
Movie Cults (horror movies about cults or could also be cult horror movies; October 5 1970 Charles Manson lunged at a judge with a pencil) - https://creepycatalog.com/the-50-bes...s-about-cults/

This might be 'new' but apparently October 25 is 'National Chucky Day' - https://www.spirithalloween.com/blog...al-chucky-day/

Re: Comments, Suggestions & Feedback for the 2023 Horror Challenge

In the pretty likely event that I am still here in October, I was thinking about doing a vice-versa roulette. Either everyone that got a "good" movie last year who participates this year gets a "bad" one and vice versa. OR, it's 5 bullets and one "good" film when I make the lists.

I welcome thoughts, of course.

Thank you!
I like the 5 bullets idea; long live horrible cinema.
