Re: The One & Only DOCTOR WHO DVD Thread (8th Incarnation)

It'll be unconverted. Steve Roberts from the Restoration Team was surprised to hear of it's release so don't expect all the bells and whistles we generally see for a Who title. Maybe Night of the Doctor as an added extra.

I heard of a two disk release. So maybe the same extras as on the special ed DVD...?

Re: The One & Only DOCTOR WHO DVD Thread (8th Incarnation)

According to the Out of Print thread, these titles are now OOP:
Ambassadors Of Death, Horror Of Fang Rock, Image Of The Fendahl, Resurrection Of The Daleks, Seeds Of Death, Survival, The Invisible Enemy / K9 And Company: A Girl's Best Friend, The War Machines, Underworld

If anyone doesn't have Horror of Fang Rock, that's one that they need to grab fast before it becomes expensive.

Basically it seems they are all going OOP as soon as the stocks are gone. The BBC's masterplan!

Only in the UK for now (a US release isn't necessarily a given, since the Universal has co-ownership of the Movie).

As said, though, this is almost certainly just an upconversion of the standard-def version.

Is The Mirror a decent source?

http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/l...-shown-8731339

BBC Worldwide has *commissioned a company to animate the 1966 classic six-part story The Power of the Daleks, featuring the first ever Doctor Who regeneration.
I'd be more skeptical if they were saying the original eps were found, but I can believe them doing animation.

I also hope that if this does come out, then The War Games gets a reprint on DVD, it's one of the few I still need and it's the most expensive.

I found a copy of The Five Doctors at Savers the other day, already had it but I got it to start creating a trade pile for the five I need.

I'm skeptical because they seem to be done with Doctor Who, and they have yet to animate a full story. So far, the only stories that have had animated episodes commissioned have been those missing only one or two episodes.

If this is true, then it's safe to assume Phil Morris hasn't recovered PotD.

Re: The One & Only DOCTOR WHO DVD Thread (8th Incarnation)

I call "bogus" on this one. There is no source attributed in this "article". Most likely, they've picked this "story" up from one of the forums where the Omnirumour people are still clinging onto their unswerving belief that the BBC have been sitting on a fully-returned Marco Polo ever since Enemy of the World came back.

This is a total non-story.

Re: The One & Only DOCTOR WHO DVD Thread (8th Incarnation)

Previously they've said that they would only consider animating serials where at least half of that serials episodes are available. I'd love for this to be true I don't think that it is.

Re: The One & Only DOCTOR WHO DVD Thread (8th Incarnation)

I think there was an animated clip from "Power of the Daleks" floating around recently. Read about it on facebook. Also appears that the animated clip (which I didn't watch, as I assumed it was fanmade) was yanked.

Seems like this story originated with that.

This article has some screencaps of the animated clip, and compares them to the existing footage for the serial.
https://whopix.wordpress.com/2016/08...leks-animated/

A comment on the article suggests that the animated clip was old, and only recently got popular.

This wouldn't have been the first fan adaptation of Power of the Daleks. There was a live-action fan adaptation done a while ago, although according to the comments on this trailer, the BBC had the full adaptation pulled:
Alas the BBC had them removed. Contrary to popular belief the missing episodes haven't been found - they just felt our work was too professional compared to most other fan films.
I think people were assuming that the BBC yanking the animated clip meant it was an official project, when it could be the BBC simply wasn't aware of it until it became popular.

Re: The One & Only DOCTOR WHO DVD Thread (8th Incarnation)

The BBC have posted a teaser for a forthcoming announcement at midnight tonight via their Facebook page.

Visit Doctor Who News after midnight for more details.
Some on other forums believe it will be announced that they have animated the 6 episodes of Power of the Daleks. Which is nice but therefore puts the final nail in the "recovered complete Power" and secret screening rumours. Bummer!
Oh well, I'll take all I can!

Re: The One & Only DOCTOR WHO DVD Thread (8th Incarnation)

Is that midnight London time? So 6 PM Central?

Edit: found on reddit:

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CrriiRyWYAEx9X2.jpg

If the image gets nuked it's of the BBC website saying the animation reconstruction will be available for download on November 5th.

Nothing about a DVD release, hope that's coming down the road.

Re: The One & Only DOCTOR WHO DVD Thread (8th Incarnation)

While I am glad that they that they are animating the serial, it's kind of frustrating to me that the way that some of some of the recent releases had animations created, but some had recreations using telesnaps. At first it seemed like they couldn't make up their minds on if they wanted to spend the money creating the animated recreations, but now I'm afraid that they are going to do special editions of Web of Fear or Underwater Menace with new animations, which is what they should of just done in the first place.

I totally agree. The episodes they animated were thoroughly enjoyable, while the 'telesnaps' episodes were near unbearable. I understand money is a consideration, but I think in the long run (think syndication/streaming) they would have been much better off animating the missing eps.

All that said, looking forward to seeing The Power of the Daleks.

Re: The One & Only DOCTOR WHO DVD Thread (8th Incarnation)

I can somewhat understand them using a telesnap recreation for Web of Fear, since they were in a hurry to get that out after the announcement that the episodes were found. But according to TvshowsonDVD.com Underwater Menace was something that had animation started on, then cancelled. It also has one of the worst telesnap recreations on it. So it's just weird and confusing.

Re: The One & Only DOCTOR WHO DVD Thread (8th Incarnation)

One would hope that they received enough negative reviews about the telesnaps that they realized it would be better to do the animation.

Though for Web of Fear, I've read that the missing episode was pulled back by group that originally had it, possibly in a ploy for more money and that we still have a good chance of seeing it released.

Re: The One & Only DOCTOR WHO DVD Thread (8th Incarnation)

Personally I prefer reconstructions like the ones Loose Cannon do to animations. I get more a feeling of the 'real' thing as it was supposed to be. Animations make me feel like I'm watching a different program with characters I already know. The BBC have done a shitty, lazy, job in their reconstructions for the last DVD releases. Underwater menace recons were pathetic.

But that's just my personal feelings... I'll be glad to watch Power in any format. I watched the reocn a few months back so I'll be able to compare the two...

Re: The One & Only DOCTOR WHO DVD Thread (8th Incarnation)

The Earthshock dvd prices aren't that bad, especially when compared to the prices of Ghost Light and Planet of the Spiders. Those are ridiculous. You can probably get a copy off ebay for $20-$40. Ghost Light and PotS is going to cost you closer to $100 each.
