David Prior, the disc's producer, posted over at the HTF and stated that the white cover is NOT the actual cover, but a rejected potential cover (though it's also possible that it will be the inner art).

Just a reminder that these new releases use the same transfers as the old double feature disc, but don't despair. The big selling point of the new releases is all those extras (and the bonus of improved sound). Here's a HomeTheaterForum post from Fly 1 and 2 DVD producer David Prior:
"Quick clarification regarding the transfer:
As I suspected, neither Cronenberg nor (cinematographer) Mark Irwin had seen the new HD transfer Fox had done for the previous DVD release. Cronenberg's completely justified objections to the transfer were aimed at the earlier VHS releases. Screenings were set up for both of them and they both approved the current transfer with no changes, so that's what will be on our Special Edition.
Cheers,
David"

thanks for the heads up on the transfer. I didn't get the previous "double feature" release, so can't comment... as you said, I'm mostly in it for the "completness" / extra feature aspect of it.
