DTS on upcoming HiDef DVD's question

What's the deal, is DTS yet again an option or is it mandatory inclusion? Also, I thought I read somewhere that both Dolby and DTS would be coming up with a higher bit versions of both for the High Definition DVD platform.

Mandatory support on hardware, optional support on software.

Last I heard, HiDef players are to be capable of playing both DD and DTS tracks and studios will pick whichever they please to put on their discs. As for DTS, apparently they're working on a new lossless compression scheme and other DTS mixes. I dunno what Dolby Laboratories is up to but I wouldn't doubt if it is much the same from them as well.
