scarface 1st edition

how can you identify a 1st pressing of the Scarface DVD? is it still worth a lot now that they re-issued it?

Are you talking about the OOP version vs. the 2-disc? I believe that the OOP was a black and white keep case, while the new 2-disc has a slipcover, keepcase, and is silver and black.

The OOP is Black and White (like Abob mentioned) with Gold banners on the top and bottom. The top says "Collector's Edition", and the bottom banner says "Widescreen"
In addition, the cover of the OOP has text on it (the same text from the beginning of the movie). In addition, the insert for the OOP is a quad fold-out with pictures and production notes. The insert for the 2-disc is so lame, I won't even go into the description.

as far as value...I see this in used shops from time to time between 15-20 bucks. I also see a ton of bootlegs, so check for that insert, and check the disc before you take one home.

Is there a reason one would want the OOP 1 disc?

Outside of the trailer, there is nothing redeeming about the OOP disc

I just watched all of the special features on both discs. On the OOP version, the Making of Scarface featurette is slightly different than the clips from 2-disc version. The only thing that stands out is Oliver Stone throwing out an F-bomb that wasn't in the 2-disc version.

I think someone already responded while I was writing this, but the video is horrendous (and not anamorphic) in the OOP.

The original version has 2 movie trailers that they left out on the new 2 disc version. I wonder why they were left out.

The trailers were left out to make space for the all meaningless featurette of the importance of Scarface on rappers and how it has influenced their lives.

Was it really a bitspace issue or is it just because most studios don't seem concerned with including trailers these days?

Trailers are a must for old movies, because in those few minutes it could make the movie look better than it is. LIke SUDDEN IMPACT's trailer made the movie look great, so much so that it beat SCARFACE at the box-office on opening day.
And 90% of people having seen both movies will tell you SCARFACE is the better movie.
