Most Wanted Western on DVD

There are just tons of great westerns waiting to see the light of day on DVD, but most of them will probably never get released.

The one, more than any other, that I want on DVD is:

WARLOCK (1959)

This one features Henry Fonda, Anthony Quinn, Richard Widmark, Dorothy Malone, & DeForest Kelly. It is a very mature western for that time. The script was great, the performances were very believable, and the direction was solid.

It is going to be released as a R2 DVD early in 2005, but I want an R1 release. I'm hoping that it happens.

There are several others I'd like, such as The Naked Spur, Johnny Guitar, etc - but Warlock is the one I want the most.

What is your "most wanted" Western?

 for <i>Johnny Guitar</i>

and

<b>BROKEN LANCE</b> superb script and performances lift this far abve the average "western", which makes sense, since it's basically a remake of an "eastern" titled <i>House of Strangers</i>, with Spencer Tracy tackling the original Edward G.Robinson role that owes a lot to <i>King Lear</i>.

The Exister 12-14-04 08:25 AM

Johnny Guitar (one of my all-time favorite films)

Robert Wise's westerns:
-Blood on the Moon (Robert Wise)
-Two Flags West
-Tribute to a Bad Man

Sam Fuller's westerns:
-Forty Guns
-I Shot Jesse James
-The Baron of Arizona
-Run of the Arrow

Fritz Lang's westerns:
-Rancho Notorious
-Western Union
-The Return of Frank James

Anthony Mann:
-Devil's Doorway
-The Furies
-The Naked Spur
-Man of the West
-Cimarron

The Stalking Moon (1969) - Gregory Peck

The only one left I really want that isn't out..very little dialogue, not your usual type western.

Ride the High Country, The Naked Spur, and The Big Gundown are three I'm really waiting for.

Great choices -- hard to disagree with any of them.

I am waiting for the Randolph Scott westerns he made with Budd Boetticher in the 1950s:

Comanche Station
Ride Lonesome
Westbound
Buchanan Rides Alone
Decision at Sundown
The Tall T
Seven Men from Now

I don't think any of these are on DVD yet, but please correct me if I'm mistaken.

Hannie Caulder - I love this movie. Raquel Welch at her hottest, the always enjoyable Ernest Borgnine, Christopher Lee & a great underrated performance by Robert Culp

Ride The Whirlwind - There is a really shitty release of this out but I want a legit release of this. Most people never heard of it, it's one of my favorite Nicholson movies he wrote it also & it's directed by the great Monte Hellman.

Seven Men from Now is part of the agreement between Paramount and John Wayne's estate (which owns the film, it was produced by Wayne's company). Paramount has said it will be released, but haven't given a timetable as far as I know.

I'm a big western movie fan and I do own alot of western movies but there are still some out there that aren't on DVD that I would like to see released like, Rio Conchos, El Condor, a remasterd High Plains Drifter & Hang'em High. 100 Rifles, the Battle at Apache Pass, i've also read that there's a couple that are supposed to come out in the near future like Broken Arrow, Major Dundee which i'm waiting for.
