Paul Reubens talks about upcoming Pee-Wee's Playhouse SE DVD sets

I’m just getting ready to dive into the special edition of Pee Wee’s Playhouse. The DVDs we just came out with is all the episodes including eight lost episodes, but it doesn’t include any special material. We’re making a documentary on the making of the show and interviewing a lot of people connected with it. I’m just finishing writing two movie scripts that I’ve been finishing writing for about three years. One might start shooting as soon as I’m finished; the other, I’m toying with doing as an animated film instead of live action, possibly along the lines of Polar Express.

Reubens and Image are working on a special collector's edition, tentatively planned for release in late 2005.
He says he's now working on two Pee-wee movie scripts, "one that is going to be made as soon as spring and summer, and the other that's a little longer way off, a movie version of the television series that's going to be called Pee-wee's Playhouse: The Movie."

The first movie, which he hopes to start filming by next summer, is a satire on the pitfalls of celebritydom that Reubens is all too familiar with.

"It's about Pee-wee Herman becoming famous, and fame, let's say, doesn't agree with him," Reuben told the New York Times.

The second flick, which doesn't have a timetable for production, is going to be a big-screen version of Pee-wee's Playhouse.

"FRESH AIR WITH TERRY GROSS" on NPR interviewed Paul Reubens where she asked him about more Pee-Wee Herman Movies. Two are in the works, a Pee-Wee's Playhouse movie that will explore, for the first time, outside the Playhouse. Reubens said "We've talked about Puppet Land but we've never really seen it. Kind of like an epic Wizard of Oz kind of adventure film, and the other one is... the dark Pee-Wee move. Kind of the "The Valley Of The Dolls" Pee-Wee movie... which I think is the one that is going to get made first. I just have to finish rewriting it and then it's gonna get made."

He also mentions that he is developing a western movie, nothing attached to that, he's not even sure if he'll be able to star in it.
Key points:

Pee-Wee's Playhouse SE DVD set(s) - Late 2005
Untitled sequel to "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure" - Late 2005
Pee-Wee's Playhouse: The Movie (possibly animated) - ?
Untitled western movie (possibly animated) - ?

What no "I got caught masterbating in the theater" featurette?

I'll rent these, I doubt I'll like them any more but worth a try

I was going to hold off, but the DeepDiscountDVD 20% off sale price made them far too cheap. If there is a new version, and they have enough extra features to make them worth getting, I'll just give the current ones to my nephews or something. Their fragile little minds could use a little warping anyhow.

I knew these were coming, but I'm sure I'll get much use out of my sets by the time they do see the light of day.

Here's a link to the Terry Gross Interview from 11/29
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/s...toryId=4190544

Although I do think the SE dvds will happen, he has been talking about those two movies for about 5 years now. Every time I have heard him mention them, he says they are just about to start.
