How many people swore to cut-down on their dvd-spending, but are still buying?
So those of us who swore to cut-down on dvd spending, how many of you are back to your old habits? I know I am, as I've spent roughly $1000 on DVD's within the last quarter. I thought I could commit myself to buying only used and only the ones I wanted, but that obviously hasn't worked.
Anyone else with me?

my fiancee has been on my case, because we need to buy a house. I used to spend about 800 a month on DVD and video games, but I have cut back. The last DVD I bought for myself was dawn of the dead...

I cut back in April, and I just recieved my, last preorder in November. I kept getting looks when stuff would show up in my mail box, and I would say "It was a preorder, I can't help it..."

My resolve has held pretty well. I've spent about $300 within this year. Mostly due to accepting the fact that I don't have to buy what I want on release week. Most individual titles I can get through Columbia House, if I wait a few months or pick up a used copy. Box sets are harder to find good deals on, but it happens. Thanks to the Target sales last week and this week, I've got the Family Guy sets at an average of $20 each.
The worst part, though, due to unfortunate circumstances and timing, I had to pass on both DDD 20% sales this year. Well, there's always next year.

Asia Imports?
A little off topic and I know its covered in another thread but since you brought it up, I was wondering how the Asia imports compare. I've always been tempted on ebay for some of the box sets but never could bring myself to follow through. I don't want to get stuck with a set that has unremoveable subtitles or grainy quality. Are most of them ok?
Getting back to topic, I swore to cut back on my spending and for the most part have. Unfortunately, box sets and recently re-released SE's have crept back into the fall spending. I'm still fighting the urge to get the Matrix Box. I keep trying to find a review that says, nah, forget it. Not worth it. But then I keep thinking about how cool Quadrilogy is.
Overall, I'm down to 2-3 a Tuesday unless I can find a 3 for $20 that I like. I know it doesn't seem like a lot but I hit 400 last week and my wife is not crazy about it. I know I'm rambling, but in my defense I will say that I only buy movies that I think either have a replay value or a special memory for me.

9 + months of unemployment nearly killed my hobby altogether but I now manage to get some things each week with the salary of my lower paying new job.

tried cutting back, but I work a bunch and tend to spend a lot of my paycheck on DVDs.

I have cut way back as well, and have kept my buying at a miminal. I am just trying to stick to the essentials at this point. I have gotten to the point as well where I am not buying new movies any more. Unless they are a SE or something I am confident won't go down in price, most of the time, the movies released at higher prices today are ten bucks a pop or less at stores like Wal Mart and Target in the near future. For TV shows, I continue to collect the series I always have, but am more contemplative about adding new series to collect. I don't do as many blind buys on TV shows on DVD as I used to.

I was doing great until getting a couple of Columbia House accounts approved (and fulfilling each with 6 DVDs for $45) + the DeepDiscountDVD sale.
I don't really care about the money spent as much as keeping up--if I get 35 DVDs over a 2 week period, I can't quite watch them all in the same amount of time.

Despite the fact there are more out recently that I want, I'm exerting enormouse self-control and clinging to the hope of holiday gifts from friends to cut back.
