Mr. Pee Wee himself was just on Dave and said that there'll be SEs of the sets due out next year.

He really didn't say what would be on 'em, but he and Dave were kidding around saying that the SEs could be limited to 5 copies so you shouldn't hold off on buying them on Tuesday.

I know you are, but what am I?

I'll wait for the Criterion.

Here's what I read on www.tvshowsondvd.com:

------
"No word on extras quite yet, but we're really not expecting any for these initial sets. Image's original press release told us that "Image, with the full cooperation and participation of 'Playhouse' creator and star Paul Reubens, also plans to release in 2005 a definitive, specially packaged limited edition containing all 45 episodes with commentary by Paul Reubens and additional bonus material culled from Reubens' vast show archives. "So anyone who wants the special material coming on that version, avoid the double-dip and just wait for next year's upgrade."

------

I've already ordered Tuesday's release so I guess I'll have to skip the other archives (unless they prove to be so great that I am forced to sell my early editions to help pay for the new)!

I still remember watching Larry Fishburne as that cowboy.

Man, watching these would be absolutely surreal now. How much do they cost?

The Best Buy ad is listed in the Bargains Forum. The OP listed the price at $37 or $38 for each set.

Same here. Well, not dead, but why wait a year? I'm buying for the shows, don't know about the rest of you. I know it's foolish to buy something when you know a superior version of it's going to be available down the road, but everyone has their list of exceptions they'll make. Pee-Wee is one of mine.

I've waiting long enough, what with the fact that it's NEVER been on TV since it was originally out. I've been wanting to see these again for a long long time.

Yeah, I remember reading that in the press release. I'm still buying now.

1. Who knows when this 'limited Uber edition' will come out. 2005 may turn into 2006 which may turn into 2007, etc.

2. I'd definitely be concerned that soft sales for these sets may impact plans for this future edition.

3. I can always put my sets on eBay once the new edition comes out. I'm sure I'll break even at the very least. And I will be able to enjoy the episodes all year.

And are there any details on *what* the extras are?
I've heard commentary from Pee Wee [which might actually be a commentary I'd listen to], and 'other things from the archives'. And of course the pricing. If the SE came out in 2005, and was 100 bucks for the collection versus the ~65 for the regular, I don't know if I'd be too interested in it.

I was going to wait, but the 20% off sale at DeepDiscountDVD combined with their already cheap price for the two sets was too compelling to pass up. I don't know if I'd really need a special edition set beyond the episodes themselves anyhow.
