Columbia-TriStar is owned by Sony. So it's Japanese economics, releasing a new model of everything every year until the end of time, you have a choice to buy or upgrade

I'd consider double dipping but will wait and see. If it contained both cuts I almost definitely would.

Does that mean that after I buy this for the 3rd time, they'll drive me officially insane by following it up with a Superbit Deluxe?

Yes. They are also certain to release it in blue-ray format in 2005, along with hundreds of titles that they own

The Uncut is simply the International Version...cause dummy americans cant grasp the concept of a man and a girl having meaningful relationship without any sort of physical relationship...

And in the original script, they did have boom-boom.

I'm waiting to see what extras and reviews this disc(s?) get before making up my mind on double dipping this title.

Thanks for the backup. Also, in the original script Mathilda was a *little* bit older.. but not much (14 or 15?). In fact, when Portman auditioned, they loved her but told her they were looking for older girls. Then, somewhere along pre-production they decided to make her younger and called Portman back in.

One of the few flicks I would actually be interested in the extras. Looking forward to this big time! This will put Leon near the top of my Most Repurchased list

Laserdisc (theatrical)
Laserdisc (jap. uncut)
DVD (theatrical)
DVD (uncut)
DVD (Superbit)

Well it would kinda have to be this year unless it was the 11th Anniversary Special Edition.

I got my copy yesterday.

But I'm not double dipping. Never have and although I'm sure I will eventually, it would take something pretty special to make me do so.

I'd rebuy if it had both versions on the disc. I have both of the first releases.. never bothered with the "Superbit."

I got the Superbit version, will not double dip. Doubt they'll put in anything special like Tarantino collector's edition films.

They had better. For the 4th release you think they could at least make it worth your while.

Unless she's now filmed those unshot "boom boom" scenes, I'm not buying it again.

(Slightly) more seriously, anyone else get the impression that despite her ivy league qualifications, she's not really all that bright? Seems I saw her on a talk show or something a few years back and her performance was quite unimpressive, either that or she was playing the part of a dullard. Based on that, I'm not sure a commentary track would be particularly worth the effort of listening too.

So is it just bad editing then?

I don't understand how bringing up the original script proves the US Theatrical cut is the Director's cut. They went younger so the sex scenes were cut. Doesn't say anything about the scenes that were actually shot. Especially when the US Theatrical cut feels like its been cut, rather then re-edited. Unless you guys know something more about the matter.

Damn, when I finally decided to break down and buy it (hadn't seen it before). I looked all over Bloomington, Indiana and couldn't find a single place that had the regular international cut version (one with the extras) but I found the superbit at BestBuy so I went ahead and bought it.

Oh well, I loved the movie and definitely will not be paying for a new version of it + special features.

Bad editing? What? Nobody here said anything about the original script as proof over one thing or another.. where did you read that? Huh? There is no "US Theatrical Cut" simply because the version released in the US in 1994 is the EXACT SAME CUT RELEASED IN THEATERS ALL OVER THE WORLD. The ONLY difference is that is was called "The Professional" in some markets and "Leon" in others. The extended version was released in theaters ONLY in France in 1996 as "Leon: Version Integral" as a gift to Luc Besson's fans. It was later released on video in Japan (with one scene cut out) and up until the DVD release, that was the only home video version of the extended cut. Besson has stated in interviews that the extended cut was only a gift to his fans, as he himself prefers the original cut and says that's his director's cut.
