The director's cut disc doesn't represent a "workprint". It doesn't just have every scene that was ever shot added in. Sam Raimi actually prepared the director's cut disc himself. If it were simply a workprint, it would have no S-Mart footage. Sam Raimi decided to use the S-Mart intro that was shot later to set up the happy ending but he actually used the downer ending. Any omissions were the decision of Sam Raimi himself, although he did say that he prefered the "Good, bad, I'm the guy with the gun" line from the theatrical release over "I ain't that good", which was in his director's cut.

Alright, folks...I'm going to bump this. I recently caught wind of a screening going down nearby, with Bruce Campbell in attendance. I'd love to have him sign a copy of Army of Darkness. Unfortunately, I don't own the film...so I'm looking to kill two birds with one stone. My question is a simple one, can somebody post a link to the coverart for the best available edition? That's all I ask. I read through everything...but I'm still a bit hazy on what exactly I should be looking for (with the bootlegs and multiple releases to search through). So a link to the coverart of the edition I should hunt down, and I'll be on my way.

Thanks in advance.

Well, the R3 is far and away the best version out there, but short of that, the best choice is the Boomstick Edition.

I just want the GOTdamned theatrical cut. Am I right in saying that the AB theatrical cut is now out of print?

I know people here don't like the bare-bones Universal release with the correct (poster) cover. Why? Crappy transfer? Am I destined never to have this movie? I have the EDII tin edition and a new one is coming? Will it be good enough to warrant double-dipping?

Egon's Ghost: I think the one you posted a picture of is oop, but there are tons of sealed copies on ebay. Stay away from the Universal release, as it's not anamorphic.

Isn't the theatrical cut also in the Boomstick edition? Since it was just a repackage of the LE, which I believe had the theatrical and "extended" edition.

Yes it is. Disc one is the theatrical cut, with the same extras as the single disc theatrical cut. Disc 2 is the directors cut, with the same extras as the Bootleg Edition and the limited edition.

I made an interesting discovery. I was originally in the same camp as those dismayed folks stating they don't own a region-free player, so the region 3 AOD will not work for them. Then I discovered this handy website:

http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks.ph...st+all+by+Name

It lists all known hacks on your DVD player. One of my players was actually listed on here with a region-free hack. I tried it - and it works! After that, I very quickly ordered this DVD from cd-wow.com, and got it in the mail after about a week.

That's one less movie I have to wait for all eternity to get on a region 1 DVD.

Actually, yes, there is. I have the Evil Dead 1 lunchbox tin set, so you can't say it doesn't exist.

Was it really true that the production number for the EVIL DEAD1 DVD in a Lunchbox is at #5000?

It was way back in 1999. The Lunchbox is customly designed by NECA

I've got a 1999 Elite Collector's Edition in a keepcase. I believe the jewel case ones were from Anchor Bay, with no features, except there were three versions.

Give DVDaficionado a look, I think they've got everything.
