I prefer the normal cases so that I can see the spines better.
I do have quite a few thin cases stashed away if I need to save space in the future.

slimmest as possible so I can store more DVDs, and Blurays in the same space!
in fact I am looking at a way to preserve the artwork and getting rid of those pesky plastic cases.
Any suggestions?

The only time I like the slim cases is when they're in box sets (usually TV shows but also in sets like Hellboy: Director's Cut), otherwise I prefer the normal keep cases along with whatever inserts and/or extras they shipped with.

I'm seriously running out of room so I wish I could put more of my titles in slim cases but most of the spines would be illegible. I wish I could find those 10 mm cases in bulk.

I like the slim cases, but I haven't switched over to them yet because that involves much work meticulously folding the covers to fit. The 14 mm cases are almost invariably a waste of space, unless there's a very thick booklet.

none of the above.....i would prefer something the same size but with the depth and construction like a cd jewel case......thinner is better but only if more rigidity is built in to protect the disc.....i have many concert dvds that are made from pure unobtanium and i'd hate to see any damage from a crap dvd case

Like many others here, I put a premium on storage space, so I prefer slim cases (and that's what I use for my own custom-made cases for things I've recorded myself), but I have not taken the time/trouble to "convert" anything studio-release. All those are "in the case that brung them."
That being said, I found an ultra-cheap ($5.00) repackage of one of my bulky original releases of a Boston Legal season. That opened up two more spots on the shelf!
I know putting everything in binders would be much more efficient, but very time consuming and not a very satisfactory for finding things, to me. Much easier to look at individual spines (even if several are only 7mm thick).

While it is a big time, and a bit of a money investment, converting over all my cases to thinner designs basically halved the amount of space my collection took up. I did this right before I started collecting blue rays and went from several full shelving units to several half full shelving units, with plenty of space for the new blue rays.
