Your favorite FAKE criterion covers (may contain large files)

There are a ton of fake criterion covers floating around and I wondered what is your favorite. I have a guy that is making me some for the DVDs that Criterion didn't get to upgrade to Blu-ray so I will post them in here too if anyone is interested. I do NOT know where to get copis of these, most of them were found on google

Re: Your favorite FAKE criterion covers (may contain large files)

While I love custom covers and made quite a few in my day. I don't understand why you would want a custom Criterion cover for a film that isn't in the Criterion line.

I remember back in the DVDcoverart.com days people were making custom 5-star covers for films that weren't of the same quality with no special features which was against what the 5-star line was about.

It just makes no sense. The covers are very well done though, but other than a novelty I don't see the point of actually using them.

RoboCop, Withnail and I & Silence of the Lambs are part of the Criterion line. They were released on DVD by Criterion but they lost the rights and couldn't release a Blu-Ray. There are also some on LD that they never released on DVD or Blu-ray but I would still consider them part of the Criterion line

if anyone is interested in printing a copy of RoboCop or Withnail and I here they are.

Right so the Blu-ray versions of these films are NOT Criterion editions. Which was my point.

Who the hell cares?

The media type plays no part at all in regards to what Criterion stands for.

The films themselves are the important part.

The fact that they ARE in the collection or, at the very least, COULD be in the collection is the important issue.

Here is The Killer:

I do have plans for a few non-criterion movies in the future. I know I want Winter's Bone, All of Kubrick's work, The Vengeance Trilogy & possibly The Social Network

The best Criterion fake cover artist of all time has to be SwimmingHorses. Simply a genius who's artistic merit knows no bounds.....

I found them used years ago (DVDs obviously), with possibly the worst of the real Criterion covers, "Silence Of The Lambs"

Re: Your favorite FAKE criterion covers (may contain large files)

I'd prefer the covers be the same as the DVDs, as Criterion has very rarely changed their DVD covers (really only when they've upgraded an older, poorer DVD release to a new one).

Anyone interested in pre-printed copies of Gattaca and Pan's Labyrinth Criterion style covers from r1db? I have 1 extra of each and will give them to anyone that wants them

Silence of the Lambs did have a hideous cover. But I always liked the Robocop cover. Would have made a really cool steelbook.

Re: Your favorite FAKE criterion covers (may contain large files)

I hate some of the covers on movies, and would be interested in some custom ones, but I'm not interested in the Criterion fakes. I understand making a new cover for a Criterion release, but I don't understand making a cover for a movie that wasn't part of the collection.

Re: Your favorite FAKE criterion covers (may contain large files)

I actually like both of those covers. There are definitely some other covers in the collection that are worse. The ROBOCOP one is pretty badass imho.

Re: Your favorite FAKE criterion covers (may contain large files)

While I love the custom-cover game and I enjoy creating my own posters and whatnot, if something weren't obviously an existing design, I'd credit the original artist.
The Withnail & I artwork is by Ralph Steadman; the Robocop artwork is by Olly Moss.
