Blockbuster Canada will have a 3-d cover lenticular cover with what looks like it comes with the regular edition release:

Was it mention Blockbuster US will get something like it also? I hope it's not just a lenticular card that came with Iron Man..

Sleeping Beauty (50th Anniversary Platinum Edition)
Sleeping Beauty (Bluray)
The Happening
You Don't Mess With The Zohan (1-Disc Extended Version) (Unrated)
You Don't Mess With The Zohan (2-Disc Fully Loaded Extended Version) (Unrated)
The Visitor
Kimora: Life In The Fab Lane: Season 1
Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead (Unrated)
Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer
Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer (Best Buy Exclusive 2-Disc Edition)
Feast II: Sloppy Seconds (Unrated)
A Charlie Brown Christmas (Remastered Deluxe Edition)
A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving (Remastered Deluxe Edition)

Also, I don't know if You're Not Elected, Charlie Brown (Remastered Deluxe Edition) comes with a slipcover or not. I didn't see any copies, but the other two that came out today came with them.

To add to Geicos very extensive list (as always, forgive any redundancy)..
  • Keeping up with the Kardashians - Season 1 (a clear SC with leopard spot trim and Kim showing her fat ass on the cover...yes, i'm a bit petty and until these 15 min celebs stop getting their own shows for being famous because....they're famous I'll continue being bitter....)
  • Breakfast Club - Highschool Flashback Edition
  • Wierd Science - Highschool Flashback Edition
  • Sixteen Candles - Highschool Flashback Edition
** Note if you get the box set of the above 3 John Hughes classics (2 out 3 are classics...Wierd Science is only good cuz of Chet!!), you do NOT get slipcovers for the DVDs. And to make matters worse, i have seen the Breakfast Club sc in an embosed version and non-embosed...wierdest thing, don't know why the 2 printings or if one was exclusive to a store and i don't know if there are non-embossed versions of SC and WS as well (Ones i saw were embossed).
  • GodFather 1, 2 & 3 Coppola Cut Lenticular (Walmart exclusive i believe, much like the 3 Raiders individual releases)
  • Forgetting Sarah Marshall - 2 disc Unrated Edition (3 discs at Target)
  • Can't Hardly Wait - 10 Year Reunion Edition. Didn't even know this was rereleased until i saw it at FYE. Here's a pic.

Hey Pride, i hope i didn't speak too soon. I'm just guessing that's how it works because like you, there's no way i'm springing for an all-digital version.
I read the covers several times and that's what i got from it. They read like warnings...like "Be advised, you are not getting the DVD format of the movie, only the DVD special editions and a disc with an mpeg version or windows media copy. I don't know. It's like i said, if you need a DVD player to view the Special Features, why in the world would you not want the movie. The only thing i can think of, is that these twisted, money hungry marketers are thinking people will go to digital to bridge the wait for the Blu-Ray market to completely take over. Personally, I don't know many people with the Terabytes of hard drive space available to migrate their whole collection to all digital. And like you said, i don't care how often you back up, one crash and your whole collection is gone (not like a scratched DVD). But i guess it's not much different than losing all your mp3's right?. I know i've got a lot of music that exists only in digital format. I wouldn't know where to find half these bootlegs if my drive crashed.

So, i'm with you, i think it's a ridiculous grasp to make us triple dip and hopefully America will agree and this little experiment will die on the vine quickly.

You poor kid. Thanks again for all your hard work, pal. Seriously, with all the slip cover splicing and sub-genre crap going on, it's a wonder you're not swinging over a drain somewhere. I was in Walmart the other day and saw a whole new "Halloween Slip Cover Series". Orange slip covers over rereleases of kids movies like "Casper", "Scooby Doo", etc. First thing i thought was "Vale's gonna lose it." I mean, in a way, it's cool that stores seem to be embracing the value of slip covers but in another way (and i'd like to hear from the group), i think the little psuedo-slip covers kind of cheapens it. I personally don't consider them actual slip covers. They're like cheap knock-offs. Like all the double and triple feature slip covers Walmart does. You'd think an anal collector like myself would love an exclusive store only product like that, but it's just the opposite.

The only slip covers i really like are the ones from the studios, not the stores. Well, let me qualify. A new release movie packaged exclusive to a store (like Target's "Penelope" or "Speed Racer" or FYE's steel book "Iron Man") are cool because it's celebrates the movie. But these Valentine, Halloween, 80's, AFI themed slip covers just seem thrown together and (for me) dilutes the whole allure of slip covers in general. I bought "Last of the Mohicans" and it came with the stupid Gold slipcover (don't even know what it's for) and i took it off.

How about everyone else. Do you all embrace the store specifc "themed" slipcovers on re-releases or do they seem like the unwanted stepchildren of legitimate slipcovers? I'm curious to hear.

Regardless, Thank you Vale for the consistancy and extensive attention to detail. All your work really is appreciated. And i think as more and more slip covers are released and the popularity booms, your thread here is gonna become the IMDb for SCs. Well Done!!

I agree with snapontool. I do not like the psuedo-slip cover thing either and I am a big slip cover fan.Two recent slip covers of note are Ironman and Risky Business with the die-cut sections, it adds a nice touch.

Bull Durham question

Hey CRB, yes absolutely!! If you know of one that's available, send me private message through this website and i can give you my info and see if i have any you need or i can send Paypal..whatever. Thanks alot of looking out...

Oh, and get this. I know Vale you're a big Tim Burton claymation fan right? Well Disney DVD club always sends me DVDs without being ordered (the old Columbia House record gag, right?), and i usually just end up sending them back, but last week or so they sent me the new Nightmare Before Christmas bundled with "James and the Giant Peach". Well, J&TGP came with an awesome embossed slipcover that had no UPC and no UPC window and it said "Limited Edition DVD Sleeve" on the back banner. So either Disney created this for club members (like they do with the lenticular DVD covers) or it's some promotion thing i was unaware.

Anyway, defineately goes on the list Vale, and if any of you guys are Disney DVD club members, try to order it cause this could turn out to be a very rare collectible down the road. Here's a scan i did...

Thanks agaig CRB, let me know what you need me to do in a PM...later.

Halloween double dips

OK, holiday season is here and for us "purists" that means re-purchasing many DVDs just for the new "extras", slip covers or market scheme.

Does anyone know if the new 3 disc Rob Zombie Halloween remake has a slip cover?
It pisses me off because i know i will get the limited editon rubber "Shatner" mask set (because it includes the extended version which before now was availble on a couple Anchor Bay versions of Halloween but it was always the cut for Television. Meaning, all the good R rated stuff was cut for TV and to balance the lost screen time, John Carpenter added in over 10 mins of footage to compensate. But it was always either/or...(as far as i know), you could never get the rated stuff mixed in with the extra scenes for TV. But this new box set has the original version AND an extended which i'm praying is finally the amalgam of both the R version and the TV cut. Anyone know for sure?

Now, my question, does the new 3 disc Rob Zombie version have a slipcover?
It's so frustrating because my Zombie edition has the lenticulr cover along with the bonus disc from Circuit City. So essentially, i have a 3 disc (plus the running time for both versions is the same, 121 mins so it looks like no new footage), but will all that prevent me from flushing anthoer $20 down the toilet just to have it all....i think everyone knows the answer. Here's a pic of new release? Anyone knoe if there's sc with it?

I could have sworn Anchor Bay did an amalgamated version when they released the Limited Edition back in 1999.

From Amazon:
Quote:
This new, Extended version of Halloween is something no fan should be without! 12 minutes of additional footage (4 scenes) has been put into the original version, and the result is awesome. These scenes were not deleted. They were really shot in 1980, when the film was released on cut TV. The scenes were shot using the cast and crew of Halloween II (another must see!) and directed by John Carpenter, himself.
I have this edition but haven't watched it in like 8 years. I'll double-check tonight after work.

Oh, and I found a couple of copies of that James & the Giant Peach DVD at a local DVD store on Friday along with other Disney DVD exclusives (The Reluctant Dragon, Donald in Mathmagic Land & Duck Tales: The Movie). I didn't realize the James DVD/slipcover was an exclusive as well.

Hi. Are covers like these considered slipcases? I saw last time at Futureshop they had some releases in these type of metal sleeves with actual artwork on it, but I believe the half circle is a bit smaller.. A few that comes to mind are The Polar Express, Corpe's Bride and Phantom of the Opera.. Has type type of packaging been spotted at any other retailers?

I'll try to get some pics next time I'm there..

So far, I'm aware of

War of the Worlds
Chronicles of Riddick
Dawn of the Dead
Collateral
Van Helsing
One of the 2 Bourne movies. Most likely the 2nd one

I went to another Futureshop and only had one I could see, How the Grinch Stole Christmas:

The last pic shows how the edges of the metel cover overlaps the back of the case..

Just wondering if these should be considered slipcovers? I think the last one, Dark City, had some discussion as it slid in from the side..

Actually, the metal does cover the back.. The edges on the top extended out a bid and folded over the back.. The only one that comes to mind like this is the case that Dark City recently came out with, but in metal..

Been awhile since this was updated, but I haven't been to the store as often. Off the top of my head I can think of:
Tropic Thunder 2-disc
Hancock (all versions sans SteelBook)
Fred Claus
Hellboy? seems disputable

Pumpkinhead Collector's ed slipcover - Exists or Not?

Hey folks,
I know Vale has the new Pumpkinhead Collector's edition in the master list, but has anyone actually seen (or better yet own) the slipcover itself? When it first came out around Halloween, there were these ads (Circuit City for one http://entertainment.circuitcity.com...=MGMV111495DVD) that said things like "limited lenticulur faceplate" so i finally get one from ebay and the "faceplate" is just the stupid "We Dare you to Watch" lenticular circle stuck on the packaging. Maybe 2 inches in diameter at best! The 20th ann of Child's Play had the same thing but that movie DID come with a nice embossed slipcover with the little sticker. I'm just wondering if Pumpkinhead even has a slipcover. Anyone out there have any info? Here's the DVD case front cover...

I think they DO qualify as slipcovers because they meet our self imposed definition (many threads ago) that A slipcover does NOT have it's own unique UPC and it is purely supplemental in that the DVD could be sold without the slipcover with no loss of self containment."

Regarding the future shop metal covers, i personally have a bad taste because i ordered the slipcover ONLY for "Van Helsing" 3 disc version on ebay
and it ended up being for the single disc and didn't fit the 3 disc but WORST of ALL was the stupid 'Future Shop" logo stamping on the side or back totally taking away from the movie. I feel slipcovers should be reseller independent (even tho many are exclusives like Best Buy, Walmart, etc), the slipcover should never permanently have the store name imprinted in the artwork. Just my op.

How the Grinch stole Christmas sc and Wall-E 3 disc

I know this thread was about the metal slipcovers and showed the 50th anniv for "How the Grinch stole..." but doesn anyone need the original slipcover with the snow glitter effect on the front?

Also, as long as i'm posting, got a question for the gang on a point of order. I got the 3 disc version of "Wall-e" at Best Buy a few weeks back and the slipcover is not the tradional model. In fact, it acts as a try where the first disc slides out from the left and discs 2 and 3 slide out to the right.

So it looks like a traditional sc but the DVDs definately could not be sold without this cover. It's more like a mutated gatefold than anything else. Here's a pic but doesn't really show the functionality. Anyone else have this or want to elaborate?

It definately did. I saw this lenticular cover at K-mart, Best Buy and got mine at Target who actually had an exclusive with an HB comic but i didn't get to the store in time. So i just have the plain 3 disc version (2 disc + digital copy). But the slipcover is cool. It shows HB's face morphing from the animated visage to the live action.
