Worst- 'How the grinch stole christmas' story book thing...you've got to sift through a bunch of pop up book bullshit and find the disc packed tighty in a plastic case in a cardboard holder which just ripped apart eventually...worst gift i ever got///

The worst packaging for me has to be the SE of 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind'. It all looks very nice and lovely but the magazine/insert inside is bigger than the outer case so you literally have to force it in... And then you need to struggle to get it out again. Love the film, extras and all, hate the case.
Love the R1 Seabiscuit packaging though.

Worst for me is the stupid Alien Quad set. The damn thing unfolds to about 10 feet.

If the outer box was more study I would agree with you. As it stands, got to go with the LOTR EE boxes.

Worst for me is that Sliders: Dual Dimension "floating discs" packaging. I had to repackage my DVDs in small slim jewel cases in fear of damage from the cheap piece of foam that they were hanging from.

I forgot my worst. That would have to be the really slim digipaks that titles like Panic Room and Grease got in some stores. It was really odd because others stores had amarays for the same titles.

Best?

The one I don't have. The French release of Amelie in the tin that sold out in a heartbeat. Beautiful.

Band of Brothers is also terrific as well as BRD Fassbinder Trilogy.

Worst?

Noooooo Contest. David Lynch's own release of Eraserhead. You get a 9" by 9" box where the single disc is TAPED shut to cardboard!!! The two inch thick box contains a thin booklet and the rest is empty space.

It's one thing to be attractive another thing to be practical but this release is neither. Oh, and this release is very EXPENSIVE!

Worst, Star Trek 2 SE, the case I got had the 2 disks over lapping with one another and they're a bitch to get out.

One of the best looking one's I have is The Band of Brothers

In terms of cover artwork, pretty much anything from Warner and Criterion is wonderful. I really hate the "Automatic Photoshop Elements 2.0" artwork used by MGM, Columbia, and Fox (especially the Studio Classics).

When in doubt, use poster art or at least classy new designs (Criterion).

For the actual packaging, Gone with the Wind: 4-disc SE. I'm a fan of digipaks, due to the custom artwork all over. The Universal "Monster Legacy" sets are great too.

However, I don't like the 6-disc Pink Panther set from MGM. The "dual layer" holders are really annoying.

Resurrecting this thread just to bitch about the packaging for Eternal Sunshine:CE. Good lord. A tiny picture of the poster on a garish silver box with random words printed all over it. Then the actual digipak inside, random frames from the movie just plastered all over the thing. Horrible.

Stars Wars Trilogy would rock if the outer case was the same thicker material as MGM's Scorsese Collection.

My favourite packaging is probably the Good, the Bad and The Ugly Collector's Edition. I know alot of people don't like it because it is taller than standard DVD cases but I think it looks amazing. I hope that the new special editions of Fistfull of Dollars and For a Few Dollars More are the same.

As for the worst I got add another vote for the 4 foot long digipackstyle of Alien Quadrilogy and other silmilar sets (like WB television sets).

Has anyone mention those wonderful Schindler's List Deluxe cases that most of us had to send back because they cracked or broke while being shipped.

My favorite, asthetics aside, is probably Men In Black Deluxe edition. Not only is it a very sturdy case that held my discs well, they did something a lot of us do when we trade or ship DVD's, they put paper(inserts) and a piece of foam between the disc that were on each side. This made the discs much less likely to become "floaters."

I thought that was going a bit extra.

I liked the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly SE's packaging right up until when I gently pulled the taped cover off the back only to find it rip off some of the case with it.

Best: Any dvd that comes in a simple trouble-free amaray case
Worst: Any 2-disc Special Edition from FOX. Cheap ass glue.

No, the Star Wars trilogy does not have the best packaging. Perhaps the best animated menus, but not packaging. We'll have to see what they come up with in 2007.

Right on. The Photoshopped cover of To Live and Die in L.A. The newest edition of Terminator is absolutely amateurish. Laughable.
How about the covers for Ghostbusters and Excalibur?
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/63...1.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

Makes Excalibur look like some cheap RenFair piece of shit, even the logo. The original posters weren't good enough? I don't understand this.

Oh yeah, those of you who have the Alien Quad, have you seen the Region 2 packaging?

The recent Farscape Starburst Vol. 1 DVD has really bad packaging. It has 2 double-sided DVDs, but the package doesn't have 2 compartments or a "flap" in the middle (like I've seen with all other 2 DVD packs). Instead, one DVD is attached to the inside front cover and one to the inside back cover. But what's really bad is there's a loose little cardboard insert between the 2 DVDs, just bouncing about the box (free to bump into the data side of 2 DVDs. To put it in Farscape terms: just really frelling stupid.

Best: Warner and criterion never let down-- notables are the hitchcock signature collection with all the original poster art (except N x NW), and the batman animated series digipacks.

Worst: any snapper, and schindler's list-- the case is way too thin.

BEST: Fear & Loathing Criterion, Fanny & Alexander Criterion, BoB, ET Gift Set, Friday the 13th Box (no digipack)

WORST: Schindler's List Gift Set
When the Last Sword is Drawn R3 (nice slipcover but the digipack inside is impossible to extract without damaging the slipcase or digipack)
Moster Legacy - attractive but too many floaters
Alien Legacy - Not a fan of huge unrolling digipacks

Best: Terminator 2: Ultimate Edition (Yeah, it might fall out of the metal slip case, but atleast it comes out)

Worst: Terminator 2: Extreme Edition (unlike the above, you need to pry the thing out carefully unless you wanted a damaged amaray case. Atleast they replaced them.)

LOTR Extended for worst. although they look great the cases are very flimsey.... the last 2 dvds in my ROTK were loose because the tabs were broken. the way its set up there is no way to repair the case. It would have been better if they changed it by putting standard cases inside the 'book' cover.
