Why isn't there a newsgroup for DVD Covers?
There are newsgroups for everything else. And now with this whole Disney thing at dvdcoverart, there should be a forum to share those covers. I know I've downloaded alot of those covers so I have them among many more and I would love to share.
I think a newsgroup devoted to custom covers or scan requests would be a great thing. I for one have made custom covers for many exploitation films that could never get accepted at DVDcoverart because of nudity and such and I have plenty of scans for off the beaten track films as well as mainstream. To me it seems like the solution. Just don't know how to start a newsgroup. Cisco |

I just took a stab at creating a newsgroup. If all goes well, look for alt.binaries.dvdcoverart in the next couple of days....

Awesome, let us know when it shows up for you so if it doesn't for me, I can request it. I'm on Giganews and it's easy to request newsgroups from them. I was looking into starting one and it seemed so difficult.
http://members.fortunecity.com/nnqweb/ncreate.html I'll definatelly help you get that badboy jumpstarted. I'll cue up PowerPost and away we'll go! |

Mine hasn't shown up yet, but I did notice there is a newsgroup called 'alt.binaries.dvd_covers'. There are no posts there, but the newsgroup does exist. You might want to check that out in the event mine doesn't show up.

I will check on Wed. If dvd_covers is the only site available, I'll start posting there.

I think this group is best for now
alt.binaries.pictures.cd-covers
It should be on most news servers. Check it out and let me know what you think. We still must create new content however, or this all dies anyway. SF |

Fortunately none of mine are there.
but I downloaded about 10 just to see what kind of quality they are. It seems to be a mixed bag. Only two were usable, probably from dvdca, and the rest were awful, probably what you would see at cccovers and DF. One, the file was 300dpi, but the front cover was obviously blown up from a 72dpi, 2inch picture, looked horrendous. At least some of the covers had the artists name in the file title. Noticed one of witchy's and one from movie-nut.

one of mine was in there, but a scan I had made avail on the DVDCA forum, and another site.
I DL'ed the first 300 or so covers, and didn't notice any particular DDen's creators covers. For using newsgroups recommend Forte Agent, free version available. |

Give Xnews a try also. I like it better than Forte but maybe that's cause I used it 1st and now I can't get away from it. Very easy to use though.

Are there free newsgroups where we can get these, or are they all pay?

No, you can get them free through your ISP. The difference is, They don't keep the messages very long, usally a couple of days. Also, some ISPs have a problem with broken files, or not retrieving them all.
You just have to try it out and see if the free works for you.

I also use Giganews and I sent them an email requesting they add the two groups (a.b.dvdcoverart & a.b.dvd_covers.
) as well. Hopefully they will pop up soon... |

Sent a request to teranews asking them to add these two newsgroups. By the way these two groups are on SBC's blacklist.

Update: As yet Teranews has not added the two newsgroups that I had requested for (a.b.dvdcoverart & a.b.dvd_covers). Has anyone else had better luck with their providers? Would be nice if other Teranews users also requested these newsgroups.

Anyone use any p2p software, such as overnet or bearshare? Could we distribute them that way? Just make sure the titles are named with the movie name and "dvdcover" or something, and people could search for them.
just an idea... r
