Those of you who keep documentation of your DVDs for insurance purposes...

How exactly do you guys go about doing it? I'm going to make up an Excel spreadsheet giving all the information on my DVDs (MSRPs, ISBN #'s, specific info like P&S or WS) but should I take an individual picture of each DVD or would pictures of the spines on my DVD shelf be enough? Seeing the estimated value of my collection($2400) on Guzzlefish made me decide to start keeping specific info on my DVDs just in case something would happen

I just have a list w/ the title and MSRP (ISBN is probably not a bad idea too). A pic every once and awhile to show the entire size of the collection is probably not a bad idea. I think a pic of each individual DVD would be a bit excessive.

Same here. I just take a pic every once in awhile and keep all of the receipts together.

Many policies won't require all that specific information. The one i have for example covers personal effects up to a certain dollar amount. In the event of loss, I would be covered for the value of the collection. The list I keep is primarily for me to determine what I have. However, I think the more detailed list you have, the better, in case of an disagreement between you and the insurance company.

You should periodically take pictures throughout the house for insurance purposes anyway. It's a good memory jogger should you suffer a large loss due to fire or theft. The insuraqnce company won't go into that much detail. They'll take a number times the average value and write you a check. They won't care what they were.
