On the Jersey Girl DVD release: "I've heard August 25th, but don't quote me on that. Could be Sept/Oct too. Being that Miramax is rushing it, we didn't have time to re-assemble the longer cut and clear the music rights for the cut material. So there will be two "Jersey Girl" releases. The first release is the theatrical cut, with extras that include one or two commentary tracks (we're not sure yet), some behind-the-scenes shorts (which you probably saw on Starz or Bravo), and five "Roadside Attractions" (yeah, I know - what does "Roadside Attractions" have to do with "Jersey Girl"? I don't know; ask Harvey).

The next release (probably a year or so down the road) will be the first cut of the movie, with more Ollie/Gertrude background and whatnot, as well as all the music that we cut out or replaced. Don't know what kind of extras will be on it just yet, but we'll try to pack it, as per usual. "

I for one, would be VERY happy if there were two commentaries.

Atleast Kev said that a longer cut is coming and that its Miramaxs fault for rushing it. Damn Weinsteins

Same thing happened with the Dogma SE. The studios want to get these little money makers on the store shelves and quick. Especially from someone like Kevin Smith, whose flicks tend to do exponentially better business on the home video front than theatrically.

However, unlike Dogma, this could be a case where'd I may end up owning both DVDs (that is, if the JG extended cut DVD doesn't carry over the existing commentary, extras, and theatrical cut). The Dogma disc was barebones and sold once the SE came out.

So Miramax is basically forcing a double dip... those cads! Well I'm excited about this movie, thanks for posting the news. I am so ready for a new Kevin Smith commentary! I like the DVD covers too, I hope they use the last one. I'll buy this when it comes out then sell it a little before the second DVD is released, unless the other extras differ.

Good news. Sorta. I refuse to double dip so I'll be waiting for the second release. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get out to see this. By the time I was in & out of the hospital and recovered, this movie was in & out of the theatres. Looks like I'll be renting.

I'll pick up the first one, since it doesn't sound like too much "extra" in the SE a year or more from now (don;t care too much about music).

I hope they bring back the VA Historian (Periera), as the Dogma and Clerks commentaries seem to be better with him participating. A separate technical commentary (like on Dogma) would be a nice touch, as well. Keeping fingers crossed!

Not too sure about that art. Prefer the original one sheet (that doesn't have LT), but does have the little girl that he is looking at (from the same photo). This one doesn't make sense, as it doesn't show the little girl, hence, what/who is Affleck looking at and why does he have that look on his face?

Maybe the original one sheet, but a head shot of Liv at the bottom?

The one sheet would be best, but it's not one of the 4 options. One has the Affleck and the kid pose but really small in the corner.

Hopefully the commentaries will appear on SE too. If not I see a double dip. Kevin Smith's commentaries are as good if not better than his movies.

Is this legitimate artwork? If so someone needs to be fired. Look at the horrible clipping job on Afflecks jeans. Obviously lifted from another image. I think all four covers suck donkey balls. But that's just me.

I know that this is a completely off topic question, but does anyone know, off hand, is this movie was a success or a bomb?

Did it break the heralded 10 mil mark (like Dogma and J&SBSB)?

On topic, of those cover arts, I like the last one the best, even though it is very "mainstream romantic comedy"-esque, and could easily have High Grant there instead of Affleck.

It made $25 million on a $35 million budget.

It took in a bit over $25 million. Whether it was a success is probably up for debate, but the reported budget was $35 million.

Thanks both of you for the info.

Budget of 35? Wow. I wonder how much of that just went directly to the talent.

As already mentioned above, Smith's flicks (and all flicks nowadays, really) will make it up on DVD, as they all have before. Even Mallrats eventually turned a profit.

Out of the covers, I'd pick #4. The original poster would be ideal though. And on the DVD topic, I always aprieciate Smith's honesty on these subjects.

The use of Jason Biggs in this proposed cover is, well, retarded

I never knew Jason "But i'm the pie-*****er!" Biggs was in this movie.

I wouldnt mind a Affleck commentary as i have heard he is funny as hell even without Kevin around.

Although Affleck + Smith on a commentary = da bomb, Yo!.

As for the covers...down with "cut and pasted big head syndrome"!!!

You are correct sir! Affleck does GREAT commentaries, even without Smith. Armageddon CC is amonst the best because of him.

They'd be better off showing George Carlin on the cover instead of Jason Biggs
