Red Violin - Which Version?
This is one of my daughter's very favorite films and I am looking to purchase it for her very soon. However, I seem to remember hearing some debate about the (excellent) DTS track being removed from the latest versions of this DVD. Can anyone tell me which version of this great film is the preferred one and how I might tell the difference? Thanks so much!

Universal... It's OOP but you can still pick it up fairly cheap, if you look around. It's like this... The Lion's gate release is said to have a slightly better transfer, I haven't seen it so I don't know if that's true or not. However, the Lion's Gate release also has a few subtitle problems, again haven't seen it, not sure what they are. The excelllent DTS track is also missing. The Universal release has a very nice, anamorphic transfer and retains the above mentioned excellent DTS track. Bit of trivia... IIRC, the Universal release was the first DVD to carry both a 5.1 DD and a DTS track.
