I just want to add a compliment for the packaging. If you can overlook the overlapping discs thing, this is really one of the nicer packages that has ever been released. [TRUMP]It's really classy. The best. [/TRUMP]

jough - thanks for posting the pics of the marketing spin. It made me want to gag! Maybe in Europe the dual tray has been met with enthusiasm, but if they were to do any market research here in the US, they'd find out how despised it was.

Got the set, overall I'm dissapointed. If you already have the individual discs of the films you like, stick with them. I am a huge fan of RETURN (obviously not included) and STRIKES BACK, I know them inside out and there really arent many funnier movies beginning to end. IMO, those two feature Sellers when he really found the character, and he is brilliant. The one positive is finally having TRAIL on dvd, (for those of you who dont know, it was made posthumously from deleted scenes and old footage mixed with new) the deleted scenes are funny, but the whole movie doesnt work... I would much rather have the deleted scenes on an anamorphic SE of STRIKES or RETURN, or better yet, and extended cut.
I watched REVENGE tonight hoping it was funnier than I remembered, it wasnt. The biggest laugh (out of the 2 times I laughed) was from Dreyfus. I remembered why I never bought it.
I dont agree with what others have said with the packaging, I think its cheap looking and feeling...for 50 bucks it should be much more substantial.
Also, referring back to my first post in this thread about the packaging, the first set I bought had a broken plastic spindle and the disc that was supposed to be attached firmly to it was not, and it was damaged, I returned it for another and had better luck, but, these were made to break (very thin) and I was pretty nervous taking the discs off...if these are going to get heavy play in your house you'll want to transfer them to something else.
The special features arent special...trailers that were on the original discs and the bonus disc is almost empty compared to the R2. The cartoons are nice, but who cares really, there arent many of them.
I normally dont care about inserts, but this set screams for one...none included.
This couldve been a tribute to the genius Sellers and it comes off to me more like I was suckered by MGM marketing. Sellers is an afterthought...too much fluff (cartoons fancy 'shag' artwork) and not enough meat (Sellers). Unless youre a completist, stick with the what youve got and hope for a loaded SE down the line.

The European version does not have the dual tray. (If that's what you meant)

I like everything about the packaging, including the dual tray setup. I think it's better than having them on a seperate gatefold ( too many and it get's outta control like the Alien packaging).

Also, if you'd like to read the interviews where the geniuses try to spin this as a good decision (not posted here because they're huge images):
Anyone read the fine print? The company responsible for the dual tray design is none other than Ivy Hill, the super-geniuses who brought us the snapper.

Why isn't Son of the Pink Panther included? I actually enjoy that movie if for nothing else than it's got Roberto in it.

Finally received my set from Outpost yesterday and am happy to say, no floaters and no scratches. Hate the dual disc thing, but at least there's no problems.

I don't have much of a problem with the packaging. Sure it's a little more effort to get the bottom one out but I figure I'll only have to do it once to watch the entire disk. It's not like a TV series where I would have to pull it out multiple times.

This box set is only the Peter Sellers ones. It doesn't include 'Inspector Closeau' (which has Alan Arkin), 'Son' (which has Begnini), or 'Curse' (which has ... uh, I forget, it's somebody looking for the lost Closeau, though; I've been told by somebody that it doesn't even have Sellers-outtakes, which I had always thought it did).

Next year's box set will include all of the above; rumor has it that it will also include either 'Return' or 'Birth' (the new, Steve Martin version), but I don't think that that has been confirmed. (In fact, I'm not even entirely sure that "next year's box set" has been confirmed, but people sure seem to talk as if it has.)

Just because somebody posted earlier that there would be another boxset in a year, does anybody actually believe that? Adding 2 horrible sequels won't make somebody re-buy the boxset. This isn't Star Wars. If you think they're going to do another PP box so soon, you're on crack. These all have new masters & 5.1. Artisan owns the other Sellers' movies, so it's not like they'll add that one. Everyone complains about double-dipping, but no one's ever satisfied with what is released. Even adding the R2 extras (that I wouldn't watch anyway) would hardly be enough to justify re-buying 5 movies. Plus, this is already the 2nd release for all or most of these movies. The only thing that disappointed me about this set is there are no bloopers. I remember when the Dick Clark blooper show first started they showed lots of PP bloopers. I especially remember some when Sellers' is doing the Godfather in the elevator that were hilarious. But as funny as they were, I still wouldn't re-buy the set for them.

I can't believe anyone's complaining about this set. What a nice job MGM has done - I don't even mind the stupid disc-on-top-of-disc packaging (too much).

The transfers look and sound great - gotta love that theme in 5.1!
