Perhaps if I can hear that others have done the same I'll feel like less of a chowderhead.
I was in a hurry at the store on Friday and on my way out , ducked into the video deptartment and decided to pick up Looney Tunes: Back in Action. Needless to say it was one of those disks where the only difference in versions is a colored stripe along the top of the case and I managed to grab the wrong one and didn't realize it til I'd opened the wrapping. Which of course meant the store wouldn't take it back. I hate blowing off $20 like that. I suspect I could maybe get a whole $5 for it on Ebay (big whoop). Guess I'll just chuck it in the closet and buy another copy.
Anyone else ever done this?
By the way. FS sucks!

No, but for some reason whenever I get a gift its fullscreen...I usually catch it and exchange it but my Minority Report I didn't notice it until removing the shrinkwrap. Fullscreen versions ought to have a siren and strobe light on each package warning you that its fullscreen.

Or at least do what they did with Spiderman and use different cover art.

Yep. once. Silence of the Lambs, a used copy at Blockbuster. I thought $7 was too good to be true. Watched it and returned it. Asked if they had the WS and they said they didn't get any of them in. I'll take my money back please.

Oh yah....
With Matrix Reloaded : stupid BestBuy employee handing it to me, and stupider me didn't check.
Also with Lost in Translation..I thought, hell, they won't release THIS one in FS. Again, stupid me.
But noth times, I didnt have a problem exchanging them. Customer Service even knew why before I told them.

Nope. I'm nearly paranoid when it comes to making sure the dvd I'm buying is OAR. I check the packaging somewhere between 10 - 20 times before I checkout. Whenever I'm with someone else, they're like "Dude, you've checked it like 5 times already, it's widescreen, you're good." But there's something that just keeps making me constantly check to make sure its OAR.

I never rush when buying through a local retail store. this leads to other problems like...not having time to look over the case for damage, give the shake test or just buying the wrong edition. buying on-line is much easier...if you have a little faith in the shipping.

I just did last Tuesday...
BB had Schindlers List w/ a free booklet. In my haste to get it I picked up a FS copy instead. I took that sucker back the next day and got the WS copy w/the booklet.

Jaws and Red Dragon when they were 7.99 or something at Circuit City. Hopefully I'll be replacing my copies soon.

It's kinda hard to, isn't it? The cases are usually labled with a colored band and the word "widescreen" (or "full screen"). Never happened to me, but then again I rarely buy DVDs in actual stores.

I accidentally bought Jurassic Park 1 and 2 in full screen back when they first came out. I didn't notice until I unwrapped both of them lol. I ended up keeping them until the trilogy box set came out and then sold them on ebay.

Nope, never done it. Came close but noticed just before I reached the checkout.
I can understand how people can do it if they are in a hurry as some titles are hard to distinguish if you dont look carefully.

My sister gave me a full screen Old School for Xmas. At least Old School isn't the kind of movie with sweeping shots and whatnot. I mean it's not even too bad FS, and I DESPISE FS.

East is East....region 2....even though it says widescreen on the cover and a lists a video aspect ratio of 16:9 anamorphic..it's fullscreen. Got it a couple of years ago in when I was in the UK...also one of the few dvds that I have that have a audio description for the visually impaired. Very nice idea!

Never. Checking the DVD over is a ritual before I buy. Most of my friends and family know my beef with fullscreen as well, so most gifts I recieve are widescreen.
I've taught them well.
