I was interviewed by the NY Times about dvds, tracking sites and collecting!!

Hi guys-

just fyi in case you want to check it out....I was interviewed a few days ago by the New York Times and a photo-shoot is scheduled for this Sunday afternoon. although the focus appeared to be directed at dvd tracking sites....it's the collecting aspect that he focused on with me. Wilson Rothman of the Times and Time magazine was the guy I spoke with...for about an hour, and he recently entered his collection over at dvdaf. who knows what he will include from our conversation....if anything, since he spoke to a few people. I would love for the pic to be in there though!!!! so whatever happens...happens. just thought you'd like to check it out around the 26th of this month. I'll fill in other details if I learn anything further.

wish me luck!!

No, it was obviously his dedication to Blue Underground releases which attracted the attention.

no...but I may "face-out" a few BU titles.

thanks Sessa17....here is how it came about. over at dvdaf I'm a charter member, which opens me up to a "secret" lounge forum thats located within the main forum that has been running over there. it was there that I learned of dvdaf being contacted by the times and asking if an interview could be done about the site and collecting. ed at dvdaf threw a few of us members a questionaire that could be filled out and sent in for consideration and an interview. I mailed mine directly to the Times and heard back from them a few days later. then Wilson asked me to do a second questionaire, which I did. that led to the hour-long phone-rap a few nights ago and he liked what I had to say, I guess. so far only Ed at dvdaf has been interviewed aside from me. I think he also talked with a few people from other tracking sites as well. jesus...people seeing what I look like? maybe thats not a good thing.

also as a side-note: it may be a little while...but I have inside info about some MAJOR changes going on with dvdaf. GREAT stuff is in the works! if I say anything now about it...they might slit my throat while I sleep. stay tuned.

I have no access to this paper, which stinks, because I want to read it. At any rate, congrats and I can't think of anyone better to do the interview.

If you don't want to register at the times (some people get weird about stuff like that), I'm sure someone will post the article here.

I can just see it . . . gut gets published and the article has him saying a bunch of things like "Foolscreen is the suck" and "George Lucas raped my childhood".

wow...thanks for that. trust me...there are many here who are better "talkers"....but I'll take this 15 seconds of fame.

and yes...I mentioned the whole foolscreen sucks and all that, but what he really wanted to know about was how I kept track of them, how often I watched dvds...stuff like that. he pretty much steered the conversation so I just did the best I could. I think my passion for films and collecting is what impressed him. what he talked about with others...who knows. actually...I'm hoping the local paper runs the article too. keep in mind that he may only use a few snippets from me and some from others...it's not a Gut exclusive or anything. I'm happy that collectors are getting a plug.

thanks again everyone....you guys are the best. ohh...I did mention dvdtalk....dont know if he cared about the forums too much. I expressed the essential need of communicating with other collectors and dvd lovers to discuss various topics through forums...including the new one at dvdaf. lets wait and see!!

We all look forward to seeing the article.
I'll be checking out the site, just a bit too expensive to pick up a copy over here.
I'm sure you did us proud.

gut, I hope you gave William (Rothman) a little taste of Nunsploitation and the like. Anyway, we're proud of you man, and I'm sure Bill Lustig will be as well.

BTW, did you happen to mention:

?

thanks Chad. he asked me what other film/dvd related sites I frequent and I slipped in that VW was my film "bible" and the only magazine I devour every month. I'd love to "face-out" a few nunsploitation titles but I doubt something like a nun being raped over the alter would go over very well.
