Is there going to be a "Towering Inferno" Special edition?
I went to Walmart and saw "Towering Inferno" for $5.88. I was wondering if fox is going to come up with a special edition or should I just get it?

Awhile back there was some talk of a SE, but I doubt it's going to happen. I believe the Fox rep has stated that there are no plans for a SE. For $5.88, you might as well pick it up.

I was hoping for one, but I won't hold my breath. I don't imagine there is too much demand for one--I myself would love to see one--but I figured for $5.88 I might as well pick it up now, and if it is rereleased then all the better.

But, in the meantime, get your Inferno fix here:

And while you're at Wal-Mart, you can pick up that other disaster blockbuster, The Poseidon Adventure, for $5.88.

I'd like to see a box set collection of remastered Irwin Allen and/or disaster epics from the '70s: "Towering Inferno," "Poseidon Adventure," "Earthquake" (I know it's not Irwin Allen, but it fit-in with the whole disaster trend).
I actually prefer "Poseidon Adventure" to "Towering Inferno," despite the fact that the latter actually received a Best Picture Oscar nomination, while "Poseidon" did not.

I asked a Fox rep last year during a chat on another forum if we would finally see special editions of The Towering Inferno and The Poseidon Adventure in 2003. He said he wasn't ever sure they still had the rights and that there is nothing in the works This was somewhat surprising and sad news. These movies would make fantastic special editions with tons of supplemental material available. Unless something has changed, we're stuck with the bare bones, non-anamorphic versions for these two films.
