Is "search" your friend?

I keep looking in on threads that look interesting to me and occasionally see these fellows that say Search is your friend however, when I try to "search" I seem to get 500 million results and most seem to have nothing to do with what I was looking for. Is this something that just happens to me, or do many here actually have time to read through all the results to find out if it applies to what they are looking for?

Search is a great tool... I just wish it would accept 3 letter words.

There have been several threads on this topic. A search would have revealed them.

Along with at least a thousand other threads as well, no doubt.

It's not perfect, but it usually comes through for me. Use the appropriate key word(s) and consider whether you want to search titles only, spcific forums, etc,

P.S. - If I were to do a search for "search", I might limit it to Forum Feedback and Support, and would never see this thread.

Search is my friend, until I ask a question and someone finds it necessary to tell me so!

I make it a point not to be friends with internet search engines. I prefer real people.

In general, I think search is my friend. I frequently find what I want with it. Sometimes you need to be creative... just like you do with Google.

First, it's hard to find the search button.

Secondly, I can never find what I'm searching for! It doesn't accept 3 letter words, which really messes things up when the movies I'm looking for have 3 letters in them. Try to find any info on the movie "Big". That's wickity wack.

I'm here a lot, so generally, I have a good idea of what's been posted and discussed before, so I'll use the search button if I'm not sure.

The search function on this forum is useless about 90% of my time (digs up irrelevant threads, can't search words under 4 letters, 3 if you use the * for a wildcard, etc), so no, it is not my friend.

I'll answer seriously.

I use it sometimes to see if I have a specific question that has been answered.

If its the same general topic though, with an entirely different take, then I will not hesitate for a second to start a new thread. The "search is your friend" people are not my friends.

It absolutely sucks. Worse, the use of wildcards is disabled so you can't search something like *ER* or ER**.

Not a fan of the search either. I do attempt to use it whenever applicable, but it does bring up a lot of useless stuff.

Personally, I don't mind an occasional duplicate.

I use it mostly to search for threads I have posted in. So yes its my friend in that regard.

I dont really use seach often for any other purpose. Not being able to search for 3 letter words is silly though, but I guess its just to stop the database getting bogged down.

I find persons on discussion boards who coldly say "Use the Search Function that's what it is there for" to be rude. I does not hurt at times to lend a hand & if you don't wish to help, well just don't reply. If the question goes unanswered I believe the person who asked the question will get the point.

As to the problem with the 3 letter limitation. The owners of the Forum should fix it. I'm sure if we ask nicely that they will try. I ran in to the same problem on another Forum. I asked politely & the problem was soon fixed.
