A Box set like this, I highly doubt it. I would assume the regular edition would though

I have nothing to add since I've never since either flick, and probably never will, but that's my old table! (minus KoolAid stain )

Thanks for the impressions. This gift set is going to find a nice place in my room next Tuesday. I cleared off some space next to my E.T. Gift Set for this.

I'll be getting the box set as well.

My daughter's hamster just died. The box will make a nice coffin.

Oh my . . .

I think you need to post that one in the "Why Buy DVD's?" thread . . . I don't think anyone has mentioned that one yet.

Agreed, I have no interest in the boxset, but I would like to have the 1932 version. Boxsets are generally of little interest to me, I just like the movies.

Note that the Laserdisc of the 1931 Scarface also had the alternate 1932 ending,.. in better condiiton than the main film. I also ordered the box set just for the Paul Muni version, though somehow I've never seen the Pacino Scarface. It's on order from Amazon, I won't be getting it early.. <g>

how does the dvd of the 1931 scarface compare to the tcm/vhs versions of public enemy and little ceasar? both of which imo, looked like shit, but then again, they are 72 years old, so can't really blame them (any chance of those coming to dvd soon)

Seen the new version, quick thoughts-
picture is definitely an improvement over what we're used to with old LD/DVD.....BUT those expecting a kick ass remastered soundtrack effort will be disappointed. LFE is rarely present here as I was hoping it would be

Check the 'Bargains" section.

Coconuts (weekly) flyer has the gift set for $49.99 with a $20 rebate. At $29.99 it's hard to pass up.

Do the dvd(s) include the trailers as well?

It's not listed on any of the specs either online or on the packaging itself!

Since studios have been stupidly throwing out trailers lately. I was wondering. Even more confusing is,when they include trailers they still don't list them anywhere on the packaging!

Example...my brother rented Anger Managment. Says "bonus trailers' on the back of the box. So I thought like with most Columbia releases, this means the original film trailer is bye bye. Yet it was listed along with many other trailers to my surprise.

Whats up with no trailer? I hate this 'trend' considering they were on the first release!

No trailers or insert? Guess I have a reason to keep my old release.

I just got my scarface dvd from buy.com. The documentry on there with Coopala, Stone, and Pacino is the same one that is on the original, just recut. They are all wearing the same clothes and everything on the new dvd.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great documentry, but I doubt I'm going to hold on to my original dvd now just for the trailer.

I wish they could've announced this sooner, but oh well.

Oh yeah, there was an insert on my DVD, but it didn't have chapter stops or anything. On one side it had a scarface type montage, and then the inside was all advertisements (kind of a c***tease if you ask me).

I didn't get the boxed set, just the WS dvd release.

I will never, for the life of me, understand everyone's absolute disgust with inserts, whether lack of or so forth. It's an insert, and doesn't effect my movie watching experience whatsoever. Frankly, why is this even a topic of conversation? If it's such a big deal to you, make your own damn insert

So, once again, if anyone has any comments on the audio and video, I'm all ears. Also, I've heard some bad news about the disc layer change, as it is during a crucial scene and is very obvious....

Yeah, you're right. Depalma. I was thinking Godfather or something.

Y'know, I could care less about inserts. I just wanted to say what I found so other people could know. And you know what, if other people like inserts, I could care less. Jeez, take a valium dude.

I don't really have 3 hrs to check it out just yet, I just had a few seconds to compare the two documentries. The menus are kind of cool.

i know this chinese guy who apparently bought the gift set an entire 2 weeks earlier than any of us here in North America. he took good photos of the gift set. at this site

http://www.tower3a.com/cgi-bin/ut/to...=1&bpg=1&age=0

he said that it costed about $440 (Hk Dollars which is equivalent to to 70 canadian dollars).

image quality is okay but not as superb as expected.

Went to CC today and picked up Scarface : AE and Fargo : SE. I popped Scarface in my DVD player as soon as I got home. The transfer is almost identical to my R2 Scarface : CE anamorphic version. Contrast is turned down a little bit more on the AE and detail is slightly better, but they are almost identical. Sound is OK. Guns firing still sounds tinny, but the soundtrack sounds a little livlier. I just started the Def Comedy Jam documentary, lets see where this goes.

BTW, as soon as 10:00am rolled around everybody made a mad dash to the DVD section. People I would of never thought would buy Scarface went over and asked the sales associate where it was. And yes, I saw some Jay-Z wanna be's walking around with a copy of that and 2 Fast 2 Furious. LOL!!!
