This is one of my favorite films. If you are a fan of Mechant-Ivory type films, you will love it. Excellent performances by Helena Bonham Carter (I think she should have won the Oscar instead of Helen Hunt), Linus Roache (also excellent in "Priest"), Allison Elliot and Charlotte Rampling.
The period costumes and set design are wonderful as well. |

I also thought it an excellent title; a far superior film IMHO to most Merchant-Ivory outings--which I love in any case... Based on a Henry Miller story, if I remember right, and very upfront and modern sexually while being a period piece...

Re: Review Wanted: The Wings of the Dove
I'm always wanting reviews of Wings of the Dove.
Specifically, I'm wondering if anyone knows the differences (if any) between the 1999 Miramax disc and the 212 Lionsgate disc? Is the Lionsgate disc presuimably at least anamorphic? Are the (slim) extras the same? Also, how about the UK Blu-Ray? I can barely find any info on any of these releases - which is surprising for a 4x Oscar winner, no? - just two reviews of the '99 disc, including DVDTalk's. |
