These "October Horror Movie Challenge" threads are for the discussion of the films in the 31 FILM SUBSET list.

The plan is for everyone to watch this film on the October day in the thread title, and to start discussing it the morning of the following day.
You may start discussion early if you want, but the preferred plan is for this to be as much of a group exercise as possible, with all of us viewing it "together" and discussing after.

Of course, you are totally encouraged to participate in these threads even if you haven't watched the movie on the designated day.
Even if you haven't watched it in years, or are not participating in the Horror Challenge, please feel free to chime in.

Spoiler tags are unnecessary in here, so if you have yet to see the film BEWARE OF SPOILERS.

Pretty cool to have two different films of the same name on the subset list. Found my bluray, about to pop it in.

Fwiw, I always get that message from a mobile device but never from a PC.

I regretfully admit that I did not see the ending coming. Do I have to turn in my Horror Fan Card?

Do you people interpret The Uninvited to be a ghost movie or a psychological horror? The psychological ending doesn't necessarily disqualify supernatural revenge...

[SPOILERS]

I didn't realize this was a remake of A Tale of Two Sisters.

That is one ballsy girl to plan on dousing her father in gasoline and igniting him; no way was that going to not backfire.

With Sixth Sense I thought the twist was painfully obvious and movie otherwise dull; at least with The Uninvited there's hallucinatory imagery and a "murder mystery" plus more atmosphere although it's no masterpiece.

Didn't get too much of a rivalry feel between the siblings, but I'm sure glad I watched this. Haven't seen the original, but I'm happy to watch anything with the lovely Emily Browning.

Kept thinking it was the sister trying to mess over and set up the murder, and was happy to see a more elaborate twist. Was happy that I didn't read anything beforehand, because the twist ending in these is nearly always the same. The main character is messed in the head.

Great watch.

Fixed.

I enjoyed this a lot more than I expected to, since it's based on A Tale of Two Sisters, one of my five favorite films of all time. While it's not as complex or disturbing as the original, The Uninvited acquitted itself nicely.

As far as remakes of asian horror films go, this was probably the best that I've seen. I normally don't like them, even the Ring was pretty weak compared to the original. This one was pretty solid, though, it didn't offend me by dumbing down the story or watering down the scares, in fact, some of the creepy moments felt like they were lifted right out of the original. Solid acting help make this a respectful remake. Having said all of that, A Tale of Two Sisters scared me more.

The Ring is actually one of the few American remakes that I much prefer over the Japanese original. I haven't watched either in awhile, perhaps I'll start my 2015 October queue.

But I agree that this was a decent remake, but the original had scarier scenes.

You know, it's been years since I've seen either version as well, the American version probably deserves more credit than I gave it. I'm usually very hard on remakes of foreign films, which is why I was so surprised that The Uninvited was pretty solid.

I'm a little bit iffy on this one. I definitely prefer the original, but overall, this is a pretty solid remake. In hindsight, there are some moments with the stepmother that don't seem to hold up, but I guess that can be written up to being from the main character's point of view. Or maybe the stepmom really was a bitch - or had just had it.

I honestly don't remember anything about the original version but Netflix shows I rated it around 8 years ago.

This movie was a total bore and barely held my attention. I was just glad when it was over despite the semi-interesting sixth sense reveal.

My rating: ** out of *****
