Poltergeist II/III reviews
MGM has released Poltergeist II and Poltergeist III on a double sided disc. The disc features 3 language subtitles and Dolby Stereo audio like most MGM of recent, and the films are presented in their OAR 2.23:1 and 1.85:1 respectively. Included are trailers for both.
Filmwise they both look really good, especially part II which really seems to have held up well. I found it to be quite enjoyable with a decent script and some terrific scenes. Unlike when I saw it in the theater years ago and was severly dissappointed.
I think that this film has improved with age. The F/X by Richard Edlund are terrific and there are some really good performances, especially CRAIG T. NELSON and Julian Beck. The transfers look great considering the age of these films. Part III is a much weaker film but still fun and interesting for the use of almost zero Optical F/X most of what you seen in III happens in front of the camera. One note is that they really should have put a booklet in this set with a little info about the storied franchise and its star Heather O' Rourke.
This disc is a great bargain and must own for horror and Poltergeist fans.
