The transfer is mediocre at best. A real disappointment. The dvd is shown in widescreen, but it has a section with white specks that fills the whole screen, black bars and all. Very poorly authored.

That sounds like a flawed disc that you got. As for the actual disc, here's my review.

Thanks guys! I loved the movie, and am disappointed to find out it's non-anamorphic, but I think I'm gonna pick it up anyway.

"...I loved the movie..."

...ehh???...

...are we thinking of the same movie?... an unutterably depressing British film, all in wintry gray tones, featuring a grim story involving incest...?...

...you 'loved' it...?...

(shakes head in bewilderment, thinking: it really does take all kinds, like they say...)

. . .

Some people don't watch movies strictly for their amusing or entertaining aspects. Intellectual or Emotionally challenging films, like War Zone, are a must for some. Life can be pretty grim, and there is nothing wrong with watching films or reading books that reflect that aspect of existence. Even though it is dark, it can often help a person to examine and apreciate these kinds of stories.

That is all true but I have a feeling he was just talking about the idea of "loving" it. It is kind of a weird way to put it.

OK, in hindsight maybe "loved" was the wrong word to be associated with the film. It was very powerful and yes, bleak and dreary, but I don't like my movies sunny all of the time. I like films that can bring me back down to the horrors of the real world every once in a while.

I just saw that there is an anamorphic version of this coming out in zone 2. Does anyone know if this will be the Rated R version or the unrated version?

Since it is a british release, I also wondered if there has been any editing.

There was a site I used to check for stuff like this but I can't seem to find it anymore.

Opinions welcome.

Jim
