yes they make tape converters to put
8mm video camera tapes so that you can put them inside a VCr tape shell
to play directly through your vcr like you would a normal vcr tape
you should be able to pick one up at your local electronic store
good luck

Look carefully at the package and see if it says it is capable with 8mm.

You guys are thinking about VHS-C. It is the same size as regular VHS tape, just in a different shell. Thus, the ability to put it into another "shell" to view on a VHS player. 8mm is completely different.

VHS-C record at the same speed as VHS and that is how they are able to fit inside a special VHS tape for playback on a VCR.

Use your camcorder or a 8mm player to play 8mm tapes. I usually just copy mine over to a VHS tape and keep the original 8mm stored away somewhere.
Let me rephrase what I said. VHS-C tapes are the same size tape - the acutal 'tape' width inside the cassete (is it an inch wide?, I only watch DVDs now so I don't really know) - this 'tape' is the same size. That is why an adapter works. 8mm does not equal an inch. That is why an adapter doesn't work.

I worked in a camera store for 5 years
YOU CANNOT DO THIS, a VCR cannot properly read the spool of an 8mm tape because it is too small. You need to hook up your camcorder to the VCR and tape the 8mm tape on to VHS.
VHS-C (16mm tapes) can be placed into a converter and played on a VCR.

Thanks for all the info.
In this particular case I was asking for a person who doesn't actually own a camcorder but is being sent 8mm tapes. Thus the need to solve the problem with an adaptor. But alas, they do not exist.
