I don't know much about the Yamaha equipment, but have you checked out these reviews?

I'm familiar with www.audioreview.com but I trust DVD Talk opinions more than AR. I've read countless AR reviews and a lot of them seem like:
"Just bought this receiver today! I love it! GO BUY THIS RECEIVER!"
Unfortunately, those kind of reviews don't help anyone very much.

I figured you new about Audio Review but thought I would include it anyway. Sorry I couldn't help you out any more than that.

Let me add to that...To me reviews of equipment, especially sound equipment, are useless unless they include a review of the features, performance and reliablity. The sound of a unit is totally subjective and different for everyone. In my opinion the best way to approach buying a HT receiver is to first decide on a price range and second decide on features. Once you have that in mind go and listen to those models in a good HT store(not BB or CC) and choose the one that sounds best to your ears. Somtimes on audioreview.com you get a guy that has had the unit for over 6 months and will give an excellent review on performance, ease of use, that type of thing...those are the best reviews. For the most part though, like you said, it's just a general "This is the best thing I have ever heard!" review.
