Scratchy Speakers From One Source Only?

I have a Sony STRDN 1040 receiver and Energy Take Classics for my 5.1 setup. I just tried playing Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes on my Xbox One and everything from the music to the sounds (dogs barking, thunder, etc.) was scratchy and skipping.

So I turned it off and started watching a movie on HBO and the sound is fine.

What can cause this? Is it the game? The Xbox? The PS4 didn't have any scratchy problems when I was playing last night.

I'd try switching the cables around to start. That way you can tell if it is the Xbox.

Something similar happened to me with Tomb Raider on Friday night for one particular scene. Weird.

I turned it on later and the problem was gone. Do you think it was bad cables?

I didn't say that very well before. I meant go to the receiver and swap two inputs. That should tell you if it is the source device or if that input is going bad on the receiver.

It may be possible a cable can cause this, but I would think dropouts a more likely problem if it is the cable.

A quick search reveals that some games have had issues like this before that were fixed by firmware upgrades.

Re: Scratchy Speakers From One Source Only?

Thanks for the help. I went and had speakers professionally installed in the ceiling and they sound great. No scratching.
